best car to start with?

I'm in the market for a car after turning in a 335is on lease. For the next car, I like to push the power up into the 400's. What is the best 335 for that? Any particular model yr better than others? How much power does the stock clutch/6spd hold? How about the automatic -- how well is it holding up to power?

Apparently the 2007s are the fastest. Go with manual if you're planning on doing a single turbo. If you're content with FBO/Meth/RBturbo then Automatic will be the fastest. Well DCT will be the fastest but you already returned your car.

07 low miles, 6 speed manual.
Upgrade the clutch. The transmissions can hold massive amounts of power with the correct clutch.

I went with a 07 6MT with 23k miles.

Tune, dci, DP's, 255 Walbro pump and E60 and I can pull on my buddies 2002 450whp head/cam FBO Trans am.

Need a clutch though, my guess is the pressure plate/clutch can't handle anything past 450wtq.

Uh if you plan for single turbo and big power the strongest is the 6MT...the automatic won't hold up for long.

You will need to upgrade the clutch though for sure as others mentioned. It'll start slipping after some time once you surpass the 400Wtq mark.

you can get a clean n54 07 or so to 400 well under 20k all in (im around 17k in and doing around 450 crank), just depends on what your budget is.
