X7 leaks like a seive

has anyone else experienced major leaking? massive amount of water getting inside driver side. up along the headliner and also in from the dash to the floor-long time BMWCCA member with lots of Bimmers over the years with never a bad leak like this.

Not on the X7 that I have heard of. There were a number of cases over on the X5 g05 forum. Some of them got traced back to a plugged drain around the sunroof area. Someone even had to get a major tear down to remedy the water damage issue. Bring it up to the dealer, they should really work hard to take care of this issue.

what is odd is that not only is the water coming in from the roof/headliner somehow, but it is coming in from the vents and down below the steering column. Would it do that if it is just the plugged drain? Any insight is most appreciated. It is going to the dealer today.

I feel like we just got it out of the dealer from the emergency call fiasco/communications module being replaced.

I have always bought M and never had these issues. Is this something more related with the American made Bimmers?

Sorry to hear about the leak. BMW needs to fix the leak ASAP. Otherwise you're going to have a moldy smelling interior in no time. I would insist they find and repair the leak and replace the carpet. It will likely take a while to get a replacement carpet but the leak should repairable right away. They can reinstall the new carpet when it arrives.

I'd worry about mold and long term reliability of the electrical components.

If all the plugs got wet, it might be a year before the rust starts to cause problems.

I'd stick my head down there and see what got wet for myself.

Good luck and sorry. It might be nothing but I'd want to know before my warranty was up and definitely have it noted in its history.

If it were me I would ask them to replace the vehicle for all of the reasons stated above. The damage is most likely already been done. Over time the water intrusion damage will start showing up even if they replace the carpet and fix the leak source.

They will replace it all. On my VW Tiguan drain hole was blocked for the pan roof, the whole thing got tore down and replaced. Carpets, seats etc

I would want a new car! Who knows what the dealer will "F" up replacing all that crap. More potential problems down the road from incorrectly installed replacement parts. Especially seats, carpet, wiring, etc. No thanks.

If that were the only option, I would just take the depreciation/devaluation hit and turn around and sell it after all the repairs were done. That would also be my argument for a new car. With Carfax and the dealer history anyone can find out about all those repairs/replacement parts and your brand new vehicle takes another valuation hit due to no fault of your own.

It's a manufacture defect and they need to make it right if they expect to keep any of their customer's future business.

I agree with you. It's never the same. I don't really trust dealers doing anything other than stuffing up a job.

Then again, I had no choice. Found a leak needed to get replaced didn't really have any other avenues to go down. As long as it doesn't leak anymore.

These things should be checked before they leave the factory. It's not a smooth process either. By the time all parts etc come took close to two months to get rectified. I think some form of compensation is necessary,

I don't know if anyone has kids and have to keep removing the baby seats and move them from car to car it's a bloody pain !!!

I'm sorry to hear about your leaking problem. I was worried about that myself. Fortunately, I've ran it through the touch-less car washes numerous times with no leaks. Plus, I live in one of the rainiest/wettest states in the US! That would be a total disaster for me considering the rainy high humidity climate I live in.

Lemon Laws in some states here in the US can protect buyers in 1st time defects in some cases. Possibly in your case if it were in the US.

I've used the "Lemon Law" myself here in the US. Although not with BMW but from Ford! You know the one right? "Fix Or Repair Daily" or "Found On Road Dead".

I'm guessing you don't have those options in Australia?

Either way, it's BS that we have to deal with this crap at this price point. However, this happens with every manufacturer out there no matter what the price point or the reliability record is for that brand.

Like in a house water finds it's way into odd places. That is something the dealer should fix strait away. You could get mold if water sits a while.

Official recall by BMW for certain units produced that didn't have a good seal on the windshield

Did water cause any damage? How was it addressed by the BMW?

I saw a post on this forum where a windshield leak allowed water into the electronics and started a serious fire!

umm is this related to the water damage?... seems like this happened much more recent and doesn't have anything pointing to water damage being the cause
