Help Identifying this symbol

Featured on BIMMERPOST.com

These symbols appear next to each mobile device known to the car. It is in the COM screen that allows you to manually choose which device to connect.

Anyway, one of our devices has an extra symbol and we don't know what it means. Does anybody know?

I personally haven't seen that one before.
Guess 1: It's the phone on the charging pad
Guess 2: It's the phone set to be a key card [though unlikely because it looks like it's an iPhone with CarPlay abilities]

Not on the charging pad and they are both iphones. I checked the digital manual and it had a legend, but it did not include this symbol

My genius had no idea either. So, he has posted in a private genius only forum they have and they are all stumped too.

Does anybody else ever see this symbol?

It looks like a low battery symbol to me. In the X7, on the side of the CarPlay screen, a battery icon appears when the phone is not charging. When the phone is charging it does not show the icon. Not sure but perhaps BMW has enabled the same protocol.

Interesting, but the symbol shows up under known devices even if the phone is not connected. Amazing that this is such a stumper. I almost didn’t post it thinking I was probably the only one who didn’t know. (New to bmw)

FWIW, the symbol is identical to what bmw uses to indicate a mobile device although horizontal instead of vertical.

Your paired devices (Apple iPhone in this case) connect wirelessly. Seems like a battery charge level indicator. Can you check the battery level of your phone and compare it? I will try to replicate on my car later and post back. I have the same iDrive version like you.
