New headlights too bright... at first?
So I have the standard LED / non-laserlights in my car, but driving around at night I'm noticing quite a few more people than normal flashing their lights at me like I'm blinding them with my high-beams. Obviously this isn't the case, and I typically go ahead and flash my high-beams at them to let them know I'm not intentionally being a douche, but it just got wondering and realizing this is typically the case when I get a new car, then the occurrence tends to "fade".
My other car (F80 M3) also has the adaptive LED lights and I noticed this a lot at first there too, now I might only get it if I happened to be catching someone at a bad angle. This was also certainly the case when I had my first factory halogen lights on a new car 20 years ago, or really probably for every new car I have had since that point. Obviously lights have become brighter, with wider angles, and have been a bluer light over the last several years, however, I can't say these lights are currently much different than the M3 other than the shape and height. So is it just me, or is there some combination of the lights leveling more, scratches on the lenses, and perhaps some literal dimming of the intensity of the light over say the first 5000 miles that makes me less annoying to others?

It looks like the beams are aimed fairly high. I get flashed all the time too, and then I actually flash it to let people know as you do.
There's usually some kind of adjustments to lower the beam - I might try that. I'm getting tired of getting flashed. On older models, there was a screw that could be turned on the headlight assembly. Not sure about on the g series. Also, it's usually cars that sit lower that flash me, which is self explanatory.

At night a cop was in the intersection directing traffic. He told me to turn off my high beams. I told him they weren't on, and he kept waving at me.
so I did what you guys did and actually flashed my brights. He then almost feel over backwards, and waved me through the intersection. ... once I turned off my high beams. |

Interesting discussion and question.
If nothing else, the NHTSA really needs to approve the full Matrix Laser light technology for the US, which controls brightness to oncoming cars. |

Not an uncommon problem with the increase in taller vehicles and brighter headlights. I also have a Jeep Wrangler with LED headlights and even though I aimed them down after taking delivery, they still seem to blind people driving lower riding cars.

FAA rushed to pass the Boeing 737 Max which caused hundreds of death, wonder how many death it would cause with rushing the headlights.

So, has anyone discovered how to lower the low beams down a bit?
I’m tried of getting flashed by low sitting corollas. As for flashing them back, I don’t even think they can tell if they are already in the “bright zone” of the low beam. |

Hmmm..., can't the brightness of the headlights be adjusted via coding? In the M4 GTS forum I believe, there was a post referencing a solution to this issue. I'm going to do some digging.

I opened the hood and did not see the typical manual adjustments most headlights have but also there is far more plastic cladding in our engine that I have seen in other vehicles. Before I start digging are these manually adjustable or do they have to be done by "computer" at the dealer like some other vehicles?

Unless they are on the ground, they can still tell. The beam does move I think. But yes, I hear ya, it does get old getting flashed.
