You are putting wider tires for winter than original summers? This can't be right or optimized for winter and snow. I always heard a narrower tire is better for snow. I don't have a problem using a smaller (e.g. 20 or 21) tire, what is the need to stick with the 22s?

Yes narrower wheels are better in the snow, but that’s not really an option.

And as the OP said, to get new 21” wheels and new winter tires, it will cost between $4,000 to $7,000.

Many of us that got the 22’s need a dedicated winter tire. Looks like this is a great option.

THE WIDTH DIFFERENCE IS ONLY +0.1 INCHES OVERALL.
HARDLY AN ISSUE!

ORIGINAL:22
sec width treat w diameter rev/mile
12.6" 9.3" 30.7" 677
12.6" 10.4" 30.7" 677

Scorpion option (Lambo): 22
sec width treat w diameter rev/mile
11.4" 9.3" 31" 670
13" 10.5" 31" 670

Look at the thread width same as spec tire

Got it. I misunderstood. If you want to swap tires and keep the OEM rims that makes sense. How much are these tires?

How much did those 22" tires cost? I went with 19" wheels/blizzack 275/55-19/tpms. $2132 shipped.

I also went down the same path as the OP and got a set of these off Tire Rack. Want to keep the look of the original 22' and not get a dedicated set of winters.

Only problem I can see with this set up is on the Tire Rack spec sheet for the 325/35/22 it says the tire will fit rims from 11-13 inches. The rear OEM 22' rim width is 10.5 inches. Not sure how much of a problem this is though...

Thoughts?

Slightly, OT, but still relevant to the overall tire discussion of summer vs winter tires as the X7 platform matures - especially as more 22" winter tire options should become available. Even has me considering more a dual summer/winter tire setup vice just sticking with all-seasons all year round.

I found this video while looking through the M3/M4 forum....

Interesting video. One aspect he is not considering is living in a mountainous area with hills, etc. The all season may do well in flat braking tests, but will not perform as well climbing steep inclines in the snow.

Is this Scorpion setup loud? My local retailer said they are extremely loud and said he won't sell them to me based on what I do and don't like.

Don't forget to adjust the TPMS settings in the iDrive to reflect your tire size and travel speed.

10.5 rim is marginally naroowish for 325 tire. 11 adn up is preferred.

Should be OK since you are not cornering so hard in the winter - but check with tire rack guys - they are pretty good.

I went the other route and got the best possible tire for handling in cold.
Michelin alpine pilot 5 SUV on 20 inch rims in 275/45/20 size.
tire is wide enough and handles like a summer tire - quite no squeal and corners like a champ. I can also rotate the tires since it is a square set up.

each tire is US 250 and i got black rims in 20 for the total of 2300 USD

choices are much better in 20" and besides the look - there is no disadvantages - only pluses.

- whole package is much lighter. vs 22
- rotating wheels and tires front to back since winters are soft and wear out
- mounting 4 wheels is a breeze - 4 bolts per wheel and done
- mounting 22inch tires is expensive -150-200 USD each time and tough on rims (scratches and stuff)
- 600 bucks per tire - is tough

I'm shopping for this set-up and my guy said he did one X7 on 285/45/22 all around, on stock, staggered rims. Few more tire options are available in 285/45/22, including P Scorpions. Anyone tried that set-up? If not, I will report back
