325i got knocked out. Accident
Hey guys just need to greave a little i got in my first accident yesterday. I was turning left on a intersection dident spot the black ice on the road, therefore the car decided to fishtail. I lost control missed a pole by inches and slamed into a high curbe. Im just mad at myself, and i could of done a better job of controling the car. I have no clue what my insurance is gona say tommorow but the rear and front suspension is toast including my bumper.

sorry to hear about your situation. as you said earlier, thankfully you and your girl got out in one piece. others aren't so fortunate in car accidents.
these accident threads hits you with a dose of reality. always drive safe fellas, and don't drive wrecklessly, not to say you were OP.

^^ yeah Unfortunatly I agree its NOT totalled.
But fix it up and SELL it, I could never keep a car that was in an accident like that.

It's not totaled but not worth fixing. In these types of accidents the suspension gets severely damaged. I just hit a curb with my rear passenger side wheel and the repair cost was 1500. It was a minor repair though (control arm, spindel, wheel bearing, and some welding at the rear axle carrier...luckily only the mount for the rear control arm was broken so the welding took care of that, if there was anymore damage another 1500 would have to be thrown down for a new rear axle carrier.) Your probably looking at 8-10k plus unfixable chassis damage...get your isurance company to total it. I'm telling you it's not worth the headache. You'll also get wind noise from the damaged chassis and the doors and sunroof not sealing properly. I know it doesn't look like much but you're facing new shocks, control arms, spindels, wheel bearings, front bumper, and various other parts including some of the mounts that have probably broken. Don't mean to scare you but it's the reality.

Btw those are basic figures. BMW and insurance companies like to replace everything that's related to the accident....regardless if its salvageable or not. I took my car to an indy shop that was certified in BMW collision repair and they worked with me to get the cheapest possible route to fix my car and have it safe to drive. One of these ways was to reweld the broken mount on the rear axle carrier. So if you take it to BMW...expect to pay more.

Yup that's what I was told about mine...I was told I had about 5 grand in damage... ....a few days later they stopped counting at 19 grand... my accident was very similar to OP's.

Knocked out? What did you get hit with? An RPG or an IED?
Eh., yah that looks bad. Sorry about that. The drawback of owning an "ultimate driving machine" as opposed to the "ultimate curb pounding machine." Still, having an accident like yours beats slicing your thumb off with a table saw. |

Curbs are death for 335's. I did the same thing about a year ago.....hit some ice taking a turn and then a curb....boom suspension was shot. I also had front and side curtain airbags deployed. It's not impact that causes them to deploy, but the sudden jolt or stop. I was lucky not have any impact or body damage though, it's was all underbody/suspension. (Which is really the best case scenario.....take off the bad parts and replace with new....no frame damage/bodywork/etc..)
Suspensions ARE NOT CHEAP....my final repair bill was just under $20K. She was put back together well and I can't even tell the difference....don't let it get you down. Do yourself a favor and look into a BMW Certified Shop, or a good repair shop that you trust. The main factor on how your car will be post-accident is how well the repairs are done, don't let insurance screw you out of a proper repair. EDIT: Just saw you had an 06 325.....your car could very well be a total, depending on how bad the suspension is. For a total you typically need to have damages >75% of the vehicles value. Then you factor in labor+ car rental/etc.....So it all depends on how much your 06 325 is worth and how bad the damages really are. By looking at it, I would guess $12-15K....maybe more.

My car's been wrecked twice. (Once was my own fault, Second some retarded State Farm agent slammed into me going 40+ mph). My repairs were top notch.....I even hired a Diminished Value Consultant when the guy hit me and he went out, took pictures, checked out the process, etc. (Protip: you're much more likely to get a better repair when you have a DV consultant peering over every move the bodyshop makes) When my car was finally finished I also had a post repair inspection done and the body shop guys told me "That's one of the best repairs I have ever seen." Yes, it's does suck and it may be hard for you to believe that my car has sustained $30K worth of damages, yet still drives just like the first day I picked her up. Bottom line: You could have the best repair in the world, and the car could be 99% back up to factory specs....yet the problem is not the repair itself, it's you. Knowing that your car has been in a wreck will have you analyzing every little thing....it's really more psychological than anything....and that can eat at you. If you can get over that you can learn to be happy with your car, as I have.
