Warning message - "Secure vehicle against rolling away"

Warning message - "Secure vehicle against rolling away"

Did some searching and this is/was a prevalent issue in the X1 where the car doesn't know that it is in Park. Granted, that was occurring with an actual gear shifter lever. A spring broke connecting the sensor and shifter.

Obviously, '23 X7 doesn't have manual gear shifter, so who knows if it's a sensor or just a software glitch.

Vehicle still operates normally but will bring it in next week for dealer to hopefully resolve quickly.

X7 M60i built Aug 13.

Did you activate the parking brake after shifting to P?

Just drive around with some wheel chocks. Easy fix and not inconvenient at all.

In get this message if I try and back up with the door open. It abruptly stops the car and won't let me go any further.

Me too. Very annoying as a lot of times I am trying to creep the vehicle to a certain spot in the garage and want the door open to see the spot on the floor.

Per the above can you provide more details… not just X7s but all bmws with e shifters will display this message if door opened and car not in park

Right!? Friggin nanny bots thinking they know better than I do.

There must be a way to code this feature off.

Thanks everyone, seems to have occurred when wife left the airport. I'll check with her and experiment as well.

Ever since that actor from jj abrams Star Trek ran himself over with his jeep nanny alerts for door open on e-shifters that don't have a specific position for park have been on the rise.

BMW has had this "annoying" feature for a while now. I have not noticed it in my X7 (have not backed up with the door open), but my wife's 2019 X3 has it as well.

I am sure it can be coded off. Best bet would be to ask/search on the G20 3-series DIY & Coding forum, due to the size of that pool of owners, to see if anyone has figured out how to code this feature off…

It was Anton Yelchin who had that happen to. This was when Jeep/Ram switched over to a dial type transmission that many would turn to adjust the sound system by mistake. I had it in a Ram 1500 at the time and hated it over a convent gear shift lever.

Yes, every BMW that I've owned since 2013 has had this feature I believe. Pretty scary when the car stopped all the sudden and made an alert sound the first time I tried it.

Thanks everyone.

Wife doesn't remember the exact scenario. But seems the situation was pulling out of a parking space in reverse, clicked the lever to neutral, let off the brake (thinking it was in drive), vehicle freely moving, then the warning message appeared.

So, no issues, seems to be working as designed.
