JB4

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Has anyone put a JB4 on their 40i ? I just picked up my 2021 X7. What a ride. She needs a little more pep honestly. Figured it's a easy fix with the JB4.

Also has anyone done spacers on the 22' wheels ? Looking to order those as well. I think I saw someone with 18mm/12mm on here.

I purchased a down pipe but sent it back was scared about my warranty. I took the car to a shop to do some coding and the guy claimed he flashed my ecu to add power. It does feel a bit faster. But maybe it's in my head. He coded sport plus so it could just be that. However I am very interested in the jb4.

Racechip is your answer.
You can easily fix it with GTS Black, plus 75hp, and XLR.
Used it for 14 month on my 20 X7 40, and you can disconnect it before service through bluetooth.

Any impressions on this setup? What is XLR?

By following instructions included, 30-60 min.
XLR will be installed behind gas pedal, and electronically will optimize throttle response.
Amazing results, warranty intact, and easy installation without reprograming.

So you allegedly got an "ECU flash" for more power, yet sent back some down pipes because you are concerned about warranty? You might want to check what was actually done to your car. Coding and engine tuning (via ECU flash) are two very different things. Unlike coding to turn on basic features in your car, engine tuning (for more power) is very detectable by BMW (if they want) and has a higher probability to flag your car and affect your warranty if you have engine or transmission issues - especially since BMW is paying more attention to ECU flashes for engine tuning. Even piggy back tunes like JB4 or Race Chip are detectable if BMW wants to dig deep enough. So far, coding has not proved to be a problem with BMW, but nothing is a complete guarantee. So YMMV....

If you are seriously concerned about warranty, you should have a better understanding about what someone does to your car electronically.

I have used JB4 on multiple vehicles .. F90 M5, GLC63, X3m40i. install is about 15 minutes if that.

Haven't dabbled in racechip but the JB4 has never done me wrong. Just trying to get feedback on the size and weight of the vehicle combined with a piggyback.

I believe I found a used JB4 so I will know in the next week ! Will report back.

How was the performance on the 40i? Been considering it since its fairly easy to install and remove.

Completely different drive, I like their bluetooth app, you can switch between Eco-Sport-Race or completely shut it and return you car to factory state.
It is in the dealership right now for regular maintenance and I just shut it off, never disconnect.

Are you sure it won't be detected during a dealer software update and possibly interrupt the update? Regular maintenance (like an oil change) should not be a concern regarding removing it to prevent detection - the dealer has no reason to check for anything. However, piggy back devices can sometimes interfere with software updates even if the device is in "stock" mode.

When I took my F90 in for service I would just unplug OBD2 and tuck up into the cavity. Left everything attached in engine bay and never heard anything ... I found a used JB4 it comes Monday so I will report back on how it works. Racechip is essentially the same thing with less customization.

I just posted my opinion about. Used Racechip and XLR for past 14 month, never had problem. Did 2 scheduled maintenances, never bother disconnect anything, went through 2 major system updates, with absolutely no problem.
Again, it is my opinion about Racechip, and as you know, many people, many opinions.

I'm running jb4 on my 40i x5. Works great! Running e35ish blend and ewg connector to be able to run map 4 (20psi absolute). Really fun stuff. Run map 3 on 93 octane which is also pretty good. Shifts better on map 4 with ewg control.

Oh, I don’t have anything against RaceChip or any of the piggy back systems you mentioned (although I prefer an ECU tune personally). I was just curious if leaving if connected prevented a dealer (or OTA) software update - which has been the case on other cars when using a piggy back system. Would be good to know for people who are interested in this tuner. But based on your response, it seems like you did not have an issue with a dealer software update, which is good info to have.
