This is the first ugly Volvo in years since the revitalization of the brand, even their beautiful Scandinavian design can't save the "Coupe SUV" trend. The rear half of this car looks more French than Swedish. The regular XC40 is much better than this.

Agreed, all coupe SUV's are awful, this fits the norm. And why do all EV's carry over gas filler locations? The old A3 eTron had it right, put it in the grill.

I kinda like it but think the upcoming Q4 and Q4 Sportback are more appealing.

Regardless of the aesthetics (which I am ambivalent toward), this vehicle is going to priced about $10k too high.

I realize it will have 400hp like the non-coupe version, but $54K is too high a starting price for that vehicle, and this one is likely to inch very close to $60K to start. With so many electric SUVs coming to market now, they need an entry level model with less power and a lower starting price if they want to compete.

Truth, but we all know few electric cars are marketed towards the mass market, there is just too little profit to be had with a low priced electric car, they are meant for those who can afford the lifestyle, this is defenitely no different.

Right, but my point is that this is going to have a tough time competing even in that context. Sure, Volvo is a premium brand, but this is based on their entry level SUV product whose starting price is more than $20K less than the electric model.

They are probably limited by battery supply right now anyway, in which case it may figure to go for margin. But if that's the case, they need to get it sorted quickly because I think the big fight for electric SUV market share is going to be in the $40k to $50k range over the next few years. They are setting themselves up to be an outlier.
