BG 44K (fuel system cleaner) for X7 M50i (N63 engine)?
Does anyone have experience with BG 44K fuel system cleaner for X7 M50i (N63 engine)? Any issues whatsoever?
I've used it previously on my Audi S5 when it had a check engine light, took it in to dealer, came back with a $6300 repair bill (forgot what it was for exactly). Decided against it and scoured the forums for a quick fix, came upon BG 44K, tried it, and that took care of the check engine light, and had the S5 feeling better than when I first bought it used.. The check engine light didn't come on again for another two months, then it showed up again. Poured in another bottle, drove it for a bit, then sold it. The X7 is driving great, has about 16k miles, MY 2021, but just thinking about using BG for preventative measures. Thanks fellas! Last edited by JSL337; 12-16-2023 at 03:59 PM.. |

I have used 44K for over 15 years across many different vehicles, including BMWs. From my perspective it is some of the best stuff you can buy, and has a reputation for being "professional grade." I wouldn't be concerned from a safety perspective, as long as you get the ratios correct. And I would be careful not to overuse it (about every 10k is my preferred interval, and I run a full tank at the max reccommended mixing ratio).

I used to be a sponsored driver for BG Products so my opinion is a bit biased. I think 44k and all there products are the best out there. Its recommended every 7500 miles.

The 10k oil change is a manufacturer recommendation. The industry standard in regards to oil companies is 3000-3500 for non synthetic oil and 7000-7500 for synthetic. BG 44k is a fuel additive that cleans the deposits from the fuel system.

just be aware that any fuel cleaner will not do very much for the DI engines in our cars (except for the B58 TU2). most of the buildup is on the back of the intake valves, and fuel system cleaner never touches the back of those valves (injectors are in the cylinder, not the intake manifold, except for the TU2 which had both port injection and direct)

I would typically do it right before the oil change. The logic is that if the cleaner is knocking deposits loose, some of that ends up in the oil. That said, I don't think it's very important.

Well… now that you put it likes this… who’s ever really that sure :-D
I’m trying to find the article on the N63 evolution where I think I read this. I could be wrong. In which case the only way to clear out carbon buildup would be to open the engine up… |
