Replacement Key for 08 135i (Non Comfort Access)

I just purchased an amazing 08 135i (Tiag/Coral/6MT/Sport), but the previous owner only had one key. I'd like to have a spare. My local dealership is quoting $226 for a new one. This seems rather high considering I have read 07 e90 keys run closer to $125. Does anyone have any experience with buying a new key for their 1er?

When I was in high school I worked in a hardware store and we'd cut all kinds of keys and if I remember right we had it priced so it was $1 with tax. My how things have changed.

Do I sound old now? Sure those keys didn't have fancy electronics in them, and that's the way we liked it! You put them in and turn them and they did their job, because that's how a key is supposed to work!

yeah, expect to pay an arm and a kidney for those. Even on my M5 which had the older key design it was over $200...

True. But it's also nice to know that it's a lot harder for some kid in high school to manufacture a functional copy of my key!

Proof of ownership in original documentation only (registration, title, or bill of sale) and a valid drivers license must be presented in PERSON to any dealership to order a key. Do not buy eBay keys, they will not work, period. All documents must be valid and of the United States & Puerto Rico.

Key prices doubled in January.

What kind of car didn't require a key? (Unless it was brass era & you are pushing 100!)

My recollection is that they all needed to have the ignition unlocked with a key before you pushed the starter button - like most motorcycles today. The late 40's & early 50's Packards & Buicks didn't even have a button - you floored the accelerator to engage the starter (after using the key).
