New X7 M50i

Just took possession of my new X7.. my 3rd BMW and definitely the best so far. Great for hauling the kids around in style. I'll post a thorough review once I have driven it for a little while..so far it's an awesome combination of comfort, power and tech.

Wayyyyy to big for me, but the dad in me really like the practicality of it. This is clearly meant for the american market. Even in Canada the parking spaces are way too small for this truck.

The one thing I really hate about new BMWs is the digital dash. Really hate the deisgn of it. Not much else to fault.

P cars are about twice the money so that's not a fair comparison.

The Q7 can... which is a real good SUV albeit real ugly.

But I honestly question how many people actually use the 7 seats in the car... when I see minivans on the road or any SUV, there is almost exclusively 2 people in them.

To make things even funnier, when I talked to a BMW salesman about the X7... he mentioned most people buying them where older retired couples . I think people just want a huge suv just to say they have a huge suv.

Hey, I resemble that remark.....

My X7 just replaced my previous SUV, a big Ford Expedition EL (7 seater). I have always had an SUV in the family for the big family/road trip/hauling stuff, and my wife and I also had separate "daily drivers" as well. So I definitely understand the utility of the SUV (and use it), but I also like driving a "big" SUV at times as well - even if I am not hauling anything. So for me the X7 is both form and function, we each like what we like I guess...

I chose the 40i because while the big engine in the M50i/M50d is no doubt fun, I am fortunate enough to have another vehicle (my daily driver to be exact) to scratch that speed/power itch. I took a cargo space hit with the X7 as the Ford SUV had much more room behind the third row - but I am sure I will manage . And as an added bonus, the X7 can haul my daily too when I feel the need to scratch that speed/power itch even more at places other than public roads....

Yeah that’s not us at all. We have a 2 yr old and a 4 month old so plan to use every inch of its space. I can see that being true overall though. Kind of like all the people buying Land Rovers even though they’re the least reliable brand year after year. They represent status so people buy them.

Eh... I like it but if I'm going to deal with the inconvenience of parking this thing, I'm going with a truck with supercrew space. I'm biased as I have a supercrew F-150 and these vehicles are tough to park in a crowded lot.
That's the main complaint of full size pick up truck owners. Have a friend with a Quad cab RAM 1500 and he also says the same thing about parking in tight spots.
Good thing the X7 is available with IAS (4-wheel steering) as an option. Believe me, this makes a whole lot of difference in tight parking situations!

IMHO, Porsche's Cayenne and Macan look and perform like cars. I wouldn't buy one those either

Sorry, just driving my small but not as light as I wanted M2C.
I agree on your estate comment. I almost pulled the trigger on the V90 T6 RDesign but the engine and performance is underwhelming. My wife doesn't mind it in her XC90 but it would have driven me nuts. I peeked at a A6 Allroad with the 3.0 over the weekend and think that may be my next daily. I had an A4 Avant years ago but no way I'd fit my family into that small of a wagon now.

BMWUSA has a missed opportunity by refusing to bring over the G31 5 Series touring. At least Mercedes Benz makes the E Class wagon available to US customers on a build to order basis.

Great car and really looks good in all black. Perfect for US market, but in little old Britain, we'd struggle to get that thing in multi-storey car parks and around tight streets, no matter how good the parking systems are in our cars, if it won't fit...it won't fit.

I struggled getting my X3 in a underground car park recently in Manchester, pillars everywhere, super steep ramps it was shocking. Never again. If you want to avoid, it's the one on Chester St, opposite Manchester Metropolitan University, down a side street with yellow signage. Avoid at all costs

Can you snap a photo of that car park?

Not telling you to go back an attempt on the X3

That is because there is a lot of marketing/sales data that shows Americans don't buy station wagons, let alone luxury station wagons like BMWs. Marketing/sales data also shows that Americans prefer SUVs and/or mini-vans to fill that purpose. So it was a financial decision to not bring BMW station wagons to the US (and probably a good one) as the cost/benefit did not make it very viable or profitable....

That may be it, but it hasn't deterred MB, Audi and Volvo from importing their own station wagon offerings.

Per Mercedes Benz USA own sales data, their most affluent customers are buyers of the E-Class station wagon. There is a market here it seems.

The last touring BMW sold here, the F31, was terribly packaged and priced at or above a new X3.

BMW wants to sell every X series CUV/SUV they make. That's fine but in doing so they have effectively ceded the touring market to the competition however small it might be.
