Is it OK to Buy Used Burger Stage 1

Two questions:
#1: I found this on eBay - is this the right unit for the 2015 228i?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/263097394516

#2: Is there any reason not to buy this thing used?

#1 - Yes it will work with your 228i

#2 - Without knowing the history of the device you have no way of knowing its true condition. For instance, that is not one of the BMS weatherproof enclosures, it could very easily have water damage. I'm not saying it does, just that there's no way to know until you plug it in. At the very least make sure you can install it and troubleshoot if necessary fairly soon after delivery in case you need to take advantage of the advertised 14 day return policy.

#3 - I love my JB4 and the Stage 1 is a great deal for the price if you don't plan to go too far with your engine mods, you'll probably be very happy with it once you get it installed.

Hey - I just noticed you are in NH. How did you like your car in the NH winter?

I have the Stage 1 and it's exactly what I wanted. I daily my 228 and at 100 miles round trip to work it keeps it interesting. I've had mine for over 13k miles and counting. No issues. I did waterproof mine with some clear RTV just in case.

Hey neighbor!

It's definitely one of the best cars I've ever driven in the winter, only slightly beaten by the E90 328xi I traded for it. No comparison in the warmer months though, the 228 is way more fun. It reminds me of the E46 330xi that I had for a little while, only it's faster and isn't broken every other week.

Of course I was driving a 2011 Camaro with a tune and a number of bolt-ons for four winters before that, so pretty much anything was going to be an improvement.

When buying a used JB/Jb4, you are voiding the BMS warranty on the product.

Its not a problem if you know the person who used to own it and you are confident the device is not defective or damaged (or even water damaged).

Buying an ECU tune off a stranger online carries a lot of risk. Not worth it in my opinion.
