Hey,
My brake service note came up, front and back. Car has 26000 miles. My bmw dealer quoted me $1900 and $1400 for M brake service, pads, rotors, calipers, front & back. Does that sound reasonable? Do I need all 3? Anyone have ballpark price from independent? Thanks Chris |

Downside is you probably won't get a loaner, but these days the dealership might not either. lol

Are you sure the pads are worn down to replacement level? Could just be the service reminder. Pads don't need replacement unless you actually have the red brakes worn warning as a result of wear pad sensor tripping.
Doubt they are quoting new calipers, so that price seems high, but typical for dealer. An independent shop can do it just as well, including just a simple rotor inspection vs. replacement. |

Damn...would the $700 ultimate care plus pkg have covered this? And can you still buy it/add it on?

I don't think it covers calipers and rotors. But as others mentioned, would be good to verify that change is needed. You would have been grinding for a while if you need these repaired.

End quote was $2500. Spent some time negotiating. Got a good deal for the care+ 2 package. $3000 that covered the breaks and hopefully the next breaks as well.

I would never get my brakes done at the dealer if it wasn't under the maintenance warranty. It's a really easy job that any independent can do. Hell, I just did all 4 front and rear pads and rotors on my M3 and it took me less than 2 hours by myself. With a lift, a dealer can swap these things out in an hour if they really wanted to.
The front and rear pads and rotors are about $1500 for the parts (our cost not theirs). I feel like its always one of the biggest rip offs I see from the dealer.

Not correct. Typically, rotors can survive two changes of pads, but sometimes they are below specs towards the second set of pads. In Europe BMW usually is changing rotors every second change of pads.
Since I am towing a heavy trailer, I always change the pads with rotors. |

A few times I tried to go cheap and only replace the pads. Shortly after, got vibration when braking and had to replace the pads yet again with new rotors. So never skimp out, just do them both at once to save the hassle and added expense down the road. |

I don't disagree. Bottom line is that technically you don't need to change rotors and pads, if rotors is thick enough (need to measure, visual inspection is not enough). I warped rotors on the second set of pads and since then I change both at the same time.
