1. is there anything about the performance springs that would make them not mount correctly to the stock shocks? i know they don't want you to mount them to OEM shocks for the same reason that they don't want people using eibach or h&r springs with stock shocks, but did they do anything to make the performance springs and shocks only fit one another?
2. can the performance front swaybar be bought separately? |

a good question and I asked about the springs a while ago and was told they don't recommend them with out the shocks and most bmw dealers wouldn't install them apart from the whole kit, sounds like it's either legit or just a cockamamie scheme to get us to buy the whole thing- I mean if we have the M-sport suspension standard the shocks have to be pretty darn good, so with lowering and the stiffer bar one would think it would still be a nice setup

i was considering performance springs with oem shocks, then later upgrading to koni yellows (that'll be a lot of yellow, huh?). but i dont want to order the springs if they're shaped specifically to work only with the performance shocks.

Guys, you can use the springs in conjunction of your current stock setup.. however there will be absolutely no warranty involved, especially if the springs ruin your shocks/struts. It would be like ordering H&R's when it comes to warranty of the shocks/struts... gone. The genius behind the BMW PS are all the parts involved which give it a stock day-to-day driving feel but a "M" feel when you want to push it.
IMO, if you're doing springs only, go with H&R.. might as well go more aggressive if your voiding your strut/shock warranty anyway.. throw in a new sway bar while you're at it. I believe it's hit or miss when it comes to blowing your struts/shocks.. I've got H&R springs on my car and haven't had an issue (knock on wood). However, others have put them on and weeks later they blow... so

Gee, I always thought MacPherson was the design - not a brand of strut. . .
Have Fun, Rick

I would imagine the OEM ones are Sachs possibly bilstein- as they made some sport shocks on e92s for a period and then the performance ones are probably also Sachs or bilstein, just my guess though

The manufacturer is usually marked or stamped on the shock (strut), even if it comes through the BMW parts system. No big deal - I would like to know, but it won't sway my decision. Have Fun, Rick

2 Part Question for Anyone with Answers
Since there are 2 different kits requiring VIN (one for Sport Packaged 1's and one for non-Sport Packaged 1's), what's the difference in suspension between the Sport Packaged 1's and non-Sport Packaged 1's?
What's the difference in the kits between an upgrade for a Sport Packaged 1 and a non-Sport Packaged 1?

You can. I wouldn't count on the warranty with it though. Just be careful! I personally recommend either doing the full kit, or going with some coilovers instead.
+1
