High Revving NA Driver’s Cars

The S65 in my E90 was sublime. Especially the induction noise with a good intake. With the turn to mostly turbo variants, I feel these high revving NA motors that just won’t stop building power are that much more of a treat. The S2000, the GT-350... What makes your list of favorites?

2018 BMW M2  [10.00]
I loved my S2000 for the high revs (I had an AP1), but the car never felt powerful, which was a bit of a downer. I'm not a power-monger, much more of a handling guy, but at 2,809 lbs that car NEEDED 300 hp to feel great.

My current N/A Exige has a tune, so it's about 210 hp, but only 1,905 lbs, so it feels much better than my 240 hp S2000 ever did. I love the immediacy of the movement, makes the M2 feel so disconnected. But the Exige makes everything feel disconnected.

The V8 NA in the E90X M3 is probably one of the best V8 of all time, unfortunately the chassis is somewhat of a let down.

I had a B7 RS 4 for eight years and put a Milltek resonated catback on it. Listening to that thing wind through 8000 rpm was absolutely sublime. Thinking about it still makes me smile, as long as I don't remember the coolant leak that the dealer claimed didn't exist.

I had this one a while back, 289 with 302 heads. What a sweet motor the small block Ford is, loved to rev out to about 6500+. I miss this car.

My Superformance GT40 has a throttle body injected Roush 511 cubic inch all-aluminum big-block Ford V8 (that's 8.4 liters, if you're thinking along in metric) mounted amidship. The front of the engine is about 8" behind your ear, separated from the passenger compartment by only a thin aluminum bulkhead and a piece of Plexiglass. Loud as fuck, to put it mildly. Naturally aspirated with 8 individual stacks and intake runners. The intake howl is something to behold. Mechanical throttle linkage - no drive-by-wire - so the throttle response is immediate, almost psychic.

And after about 45 minutes or so, you're ready to park it and put a bag of ice over your head.

I had a Factory Five Cobra with a 302 roller and side pipes, sweet as fuck but always needed an Advil after a cruise.

RR streetbike or offroad race bike.

These things take high revving NA glory and the concept of a "driver's machine" to a whole nother level. Everything is designed for performance and the operator experience is second to none. Makes GT series Porsche and certainly M-car feel like driving a tractor.
