Bought My M3 in Arizona.. Do I need a Smog Check?
Hey fellas,
I just picked up my E93 M3 last week and was going to get a smog check today but some of my friends have told me that I did not have to smog the car if it is a "newer" car. My M3 is a 2008 and I went through the DMV website and it says if the car is less than 4 years old then it would not need a smog check. Does this apply for a car purchased out of state as well? Any help or info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks |

I imagine you would have to if you are going to get CA plates/registration. I had to on my 2008 335i (Nevada car). You should ask a DMW referee (I believe the same line as if your car was lining up for a behind the wheel test).

In AZ when you pull up to the line they tell you to just pull up and get the OBD check as long as the car is AZ plates. They usually know just by looking at the car its a newer model and doest require smog check. I did this for my daughters 05 Toyota and just had the OBD check no smog involved.

Only if you plan to register the car in CA.
