That dial doesn't do anything for HUD, it needs to be adjusted from iDrive.

It's not that the information isn't available in other areas of the car. It's that the information is available essentially in the line of sight. I find that, especially when using the NAV system, to be super helpful.

Yes, I have it in the 335. I'm in 111 and have a week to decide if I want it in the M3, which has a better interface.

Safety and performance
The BMW HUD system is promoted more as an optional piece of technology. I agree with previous comments. It is brilliant technology but the safety aspect is often overlooked. Combined with the. Voice activation system you can almost always keep your eyes on the road. The only thing I don't understand is why isn't it promoted more by BMW or motoring press. It is the safest way of using Nav, making a phone call, looking at speed etc or being alerted to a fault or collision warning. I have it on my M4 and X5 50i and would never be without it.

Many people would claim that it's just another distraction, reducing your safety. I don't necessarily share this opinion, but I heard it from driving instructors, educating people on how to drive safely.

HUD is absolutely awesome. Not cheap (as part of Exec pack), but probably the single most valuable improvement in driving experience after Navigation (vs. paper maps). Coupled with Nav == priceless. a

Agreed. It's a superb tool for keeping eyes on the road and head up. I've never heard of a DE instructor making a claim like this.

Phone button and HUD
Most probably already know but if you press the phone button on the steering wheel while driving the most recent used phone numbers will appear on the HUD and you can simply scroll through with the wheel and select a name and number without taking your eyes away from the road. Again brilliant convenience and Safety.

Yeah sorry I am talking about the regular HUD mode which is much more flexible. I agree with previous comments that the M HUD IS a little limited and colour scheme a bit dominant . Regular HUD mode is better overall in my opinion

It does for me, it dim's the dash as well as the HUD, the iDrive settings will set the brightness and this will slightly dim or brighten it. Maybe I changed some things in coding that enabled this but I can confirm it works.

You're right, I just tried it and it does work. Dunno why I thought that it doesn't.

If the lights are off then the switch is dead and won't adjust the hud or dash. If the lights are on it works. I think that's probably why you didn't notice its function, during the day.

Basically I've had to just turn off m-view since there's no alternate way to turn it on outside of the m buttons. |
