Cloud9, thanks for the reply.

Great car, and a good experience in the dealership, but the "agony" is certainly there. I think the problem is that of expectations and a very poor tracking system. Of these, the worst is the expectation side. If I was running this show, I'd take the Owner's Circle tracking away AND the 800 number, and ditch them. Do other auto companies do a better job of tracking and predicting delivery times, or is it just too complex?

Next time I think I might do for European Delivery, and choose a date well into the future, book my flights and accomodation and think of it as a vacation. But then, there is the shipping back and the uncertainty about when the car gets back in my hands. Can't win!

Update!! I just saw my rep and my car has been released to the carrier as of 7/14. He said it could arrive any day but on the status report it shows 7/17 as dealer delivery. He said that's not always accurate (no kidding!).

I feel hopeful that next week I'll be in my E90!

Am I the last one waiting for my car off this ship? I'm still HOPING for this week, but there is no commitment yet, so I'd like to know if I'm alone

PS I know the car was damaged - a scratched windshield. Maybe more!

Yeah, they must have seriously screwed something up. My car came in on a ship on July 11 and I picked it up last weds. I would seriously be questioning the dealer as to what really has happened to it. Best of luck bud.

My car is STILL in the VPC at NY/NJ, and I won't even bother posting the status that BMWNA have given to the dealership, since they contradict earlier information provided.

Eleven weeks and counting.

No light at the end of the tunnel.

Sorry to hear. I can only imagine what you are going through.

BTW, did you get your E90 loaner?

I'm not too far behind you - mine got off the Maersk Teal on July 8/9 in NY. I've been fed a steady stream of "it should be here in a few days" from the dealer for the last couple of weeks. The latest is I will have it this Thursday, but I'm not optimistic given the track record so far.

I agree with the earlier comments that BMWNA's tracking is terrible. It seems to be nothing more than a lot of hoping and guessing. I'm not sure if this is because its all the information my salesperson has available or just laziness...

I don't know what more a person might expect from BMWNA regarding shipping information. The dealer can give you the vessel information, in order to track the vessel's progress. Other aspects of the vehicle's transit are pretty apparent before and after the ocean voyage. Seems that most of the frustration here is centered on the VPC, delays associated with making the car ready, and lack of information centered on that topic. BMWNA's main concern is to deliver to the dealer a 100% spec car, and is under no particular time obligation, other than good business practice. Their long term goals are satisfied much more by delivering a quality product, than on the short term frustration with delays.

It's just slow moving equipment back and forth across the ocean. This is from coming from a guy whose E90 is currently in transit between Southampton and NY. My attitude may change when/if my car gets entangled at the VPC.

Let the begin!

Sorry to hear this is still going on!! I hope things move for you this week.

An E90 loaner? That's amazing! This dealership is really something.

Hi,

My car was on the Turandot and I finally picked it up on 7/21. I've been busy driving this gem and this is one reason it took me a while to post to this thread.

According to the dealer, a software update is being applied to all of the cars at the port (this shipment just missed the update at the factory). The software update was for engine control and emissions. They seemed to imply that some of the earlier cars were having their 'check engine' indicators come on for no reason. Apparently this update fixes the problem. So I suspect that this is what is causing all of the delays.

Here is what I expect. Accuracy.

Here is my experience, in part.

Based on BMWNA advice that my car was on a truck on its way to the dealership, I paid for it in full. That was over two weeks ago.

Days later, the story changed to it being damaged, it's still in the VPC and they are waiting for windshield parts from Germany.

Then the windshield parts "had arrived" - that was a week ago.

Then the parts were being "looked for locally in the US". That was yesterday.

Today, as of 6:42 AM, the car has been completely repaired and is "on the truck pad" ready for trucking.

My car is "priority 1", has been on order for 11 weeks, in the country for 27 days, paid for for over 2 weeks and I still have no delivery date.

I DO expect better communication than this.

Paid for in full; ouch! That explains the "generous" loaner policy. I guess you could expect nothing less.

I was OK with paying a day or two prior to delivery to expedite the process of titling, registration and all that. It just kept stretching a couple of days at a time. Schedule creep!

Latest story is it's on the truck, arrives at the dealership today, and if they don't lose the Certificate of Origin, I'll be in the driver's seat tomorrow.

The last 36 hours has seen a lot of activity between myself and BMW Customer Relations, and the dealership and the BMW Zone Manager and his boss.

My recommendation to others who are getting the run-around is to get the dealership to escalate to the Zone Manager and to call BMW Customer Relations on the 800 number yourself (keeping the dealership informed of your progress).

PS The loaner was provided PRIOR to me paying for the car, so the dealership was definitely doing the right thing

My car's certificate of origin didn't come for days after the car arrived and the dealer claimed that they do not send it with the car, but they send it after the dealer confirms receipt of the car. I was able to drive the car because I was transferring plates, so that gave me a week before the car had to be registered.

I believe the C of O is sent when the car is despatched from the VPC. Both BMWNA and the dealer expect it to arrive tomorrow (2 days after vehicle despatch).

My car has arrived today, with the wrong trim. If you want aluminum or poplar, check carefully. The default is "wood trim" which is Walnut.

Dealer is swapping it over today.

I'm not sure we want to repeat this experience, but the reality of a truly wonderful car may make the memories of this total stuff-up fade. In time. In a lot of time, maybe.
