Yikes. Bad news for the M50 crew. Getting passed by that ugly MFR would hurt terribly.

After 3 runs the X7M50i continues on its 400 mile road trip that day. The iX 50 is carefully and slowly driving back to its garage for a charging as it’s day is over.

In my world, if a large luxury SUV can’t go at least 800 miles in one day with only requiring 20 minutes to fully recharge, then it’s deal breaker. Then factor in I don’t want to have to drive like a grandma going to church the entire trip to get to that 800 mile range.

It goes without saying BMW and the auto press will do everything they can to stage their latest electric car in the best possible light. It was done with Tesla doing these types of one dimensional test but fail to actually use that application of acceleration in dozens of times over a average road trip where one might need it in the real world.

Drag racing SUV's is nonsense but it does show the advantages of an electric drivetrain over an ICE vehicle when entering a fast moving highway or passing another car. Like it or not, EV's are coming.

Exactly.

And, what's with all these acceleration challenges these days? Its like this is the only metric that matters. Don't get me wrong, I like fast cars, but acceleration is only one part of the equation.

That's why they did the brake test too I suppose. Neither one of them belongs anywhere near a slalom course or skidpad though.

Definitely would have made the same comment had I gotten the M50i; only thing that would change is adding an "us M50i owners".

Hopefully I'll see an iX in the wild soon so I can exact some retribution for the ICE crowd.
