BMW car cover

Anyone else using the BMW outdoor cover? I have a parking spot under a tree so I bought one but it kind of smears in any loose dust that may be on the car. Should I be worried about damaging the paint with this cover?

I would get one but I just think it's too much of a hassle for me.

Yes. Be very careful when you put it on and try not to if your car is really dirty. Try to keep any sliding of the cover over your car's surface to a minimum.

Does the OEM cover block UV rays...Is the interior of the car kept cool?

Yes it blocks UV rays but if it is hot so is your car. Cooler than without the cover.

I have a BondTech car cover - it doesn't fit my car all the way, especially at the back but it gets the job done. It's a pain to put on, especially when windy. It's hard when I'm doing it by myself, it tends to touch the ground and get dirty. I'm thinking of getting the BMW OEM car cover because it is custom-fit but still debating.....

saw a full size car cover once at Costco for $30+ this summer, thought of getting one, since OEMs were $150+.

But, i never did see them again, maybe its a seasonal thing.

Anyway, it may have been an overkill for a garaged car, just a brain fart!

I suppose this set up may choosing between the lesser of two unfortunates. You either put up with bird droppings, leaves, sap and other annoyances from the tree you park under OR the risk of having the cover leave fine scratch marks.

Is it possible to line the inside of the cover with some very soft, fluffy fabric that wont affect the car? Big job but it may help.

Other options that obviously are not on the agenda for whatever reasons are park eleswhere or trim the tree but I gather that if you didn't mention these, they are not under consideration.

I hope you sort out your dilema soon.

Cheers.

The OEM cover is designed to breathe, I wouldn't add anything.

BTW, this is an old thread. I have learned not to use the cover when the car is dirty and how to put it on and take it off without dragging it across the car. Helps with the smearing.

Glad you sorted you problem out to get the best result that you can. Yes, breathing of the cover and car is important too.

Someone else must have posted recently as this thread was on the first page.

Awesome! I leave the country pretty often for 2 to 4 weeks at a time, so this should come in very handy.

I have the oem car cover. It is pretty easy to put on / off.. shouldn't take more than 1 minute both ways. I like it a lot because it keeps the car cleaner for longer which mean less car washes. Especially now that it is too cold.

I was thinking of getting the OEM car cover but I didn't want to spend $130 for a car cover that was going to get dirty anyway. Right now I am using a Bondtech car cover - and it works great! Only 30 bucks and keeps the dust off! Not custom-fit like the OEM cover and probably not as high quality but gets the job done nevertheless. I would recommend it.

I have one. It is great when it snows. Only minor issue, I put the Zaino wax on my car so the cover really slides and makes it a chore to put on. As long as the car is not dirty, it does not scratch.

I'll only be using it when I go away for trips, so I'll just have to wash the car prior to putting it on.
