Are these G20 myths ??
Just reading around the net and the User Guide I have posted the following questions to determine if there is any facts behind some of the articles I have read...
1. Does the new front grill of the G20 open and if so when, as I haven’t seen a pic with one open or understand what the criteria is for it to go to the open position ?? 2. The user guide states the car can be put into coasting manually, having tried this technique via the paddles many times, I am still unable to make this happen ?? 3. If I select the pre air cooling in the winter months will the windscreen defrost at the planned departure time via the mobile app ?? |

The grill does open, when the engine needs more air.
Don’t know about 2&3.

Hi Pentop63
1. All G20 grills open only when the engine needs air, it closed most of time 2. Coasting manually, I have done this, yiu just need to push the gear lever forward without pressing the side button. This puts the car in neutral and allows you to coast, not sure why you would need it though I use it in dense traffic 3. Sorry., I don't have the answer to that one |

Re the coasting, the car is an auto and this saves fuel when in eco pro mode but sometimes doesn’t engage coasting as the engine uses it to brake when it preparing for a manoeuvre or approaching roundabout, if that makes sense

Coasting is a feature of the ZF transmission when you're in Eco Pro mode. Some F series BMWs had this feature as well.

Yes it works fine automatically and kicks in going down a slope but first thing in a morning the same slope it doesn’t kick in which may be related to the eco mode not being available hence the question as would like to force it manually which is described in the manual via the paddles but it doesn’t work ??

It may be related to the energy recovery system and perhaps its not being functional until the battery is up to a specific percentage of charge much the same as auto stop start does not operate at all times .

The third point, we need the auxiliary heating option to get cabin pre-heating in cold/freezing weather. Without it there is no heat source. Is the auxiliary heating option listed for the G20, in the UK? |

Is that from BMW themselves, or just from the public specs and price list?
I've haven't seen it listed in the brochures, but that has been the case for other models. Whereas the option has often been available as part of the build, if you dig deeper. |

Just looked on RealOEM, and selected the 320d model. LHD models (for Europe) have the auxiliary heating option, including the full parts listing. RHD, (for Europe) no matching parts...

I pre-heat my car with an electric fan heater in freezing conditions. Running the engine, to thaw out windows, is not an efficient way to do so. We have run auxiliary heating in VW Caravelles for years. They are a bit smelly to use, but with larger cabins to heat are pretty much essential in winter. |

Here are some shots of the grills open and closed, when I collected my car today it was 33 degrees so it was a first experience of them moving for the salesman too! |
