Trailer / Tow hitch

Just realized that my car doesn't have a tow hitch. Would love to trailer my track car to the track.

Any idea when BMW will release one?

Most likely it will never release one here in the states. Hoping someone donates their car to stealth hitch or invisi-hitch soon to make aftermarket one…

Stealth hitch would be able to create one but we need to create enough interest. We could start a list of all the people interested in this thread to show Steve @ stealthhitch that there’s enough demand for it. Here’s their development page https://stealthhitches.com/pages/get...r-your-vehicle

Other thread https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1989781

1) gan23
2) Other owner at my dealer that wants it
3) ipeefreely
4) BMWXMBlack ?

Why is there a part number for the hitch?

Been following you guys since I am planning to pick one up soon.

Just did a quick research on the parts catalog.
Euro XM uses the same swiveling hitch as Euro G05.
So, StealthHitches for G05/G06 technically should fit. Just matter of confirming it.

Interesting. That info wasn’t available until recently. So maybe Stealth can reuse the G05 part.

Hello Ben,

Will you be able to work with Stealth Hitch to test the G05 version if it fits? You must have some lying around in your shop?

I don’t have any laying around unfortunately.
But, I did contact them today and they will get back to me ASAP.
I lifted mine earlier today and from what I see, it should work.

I was about to email them.
They never replied after the last email, and I've been on the road with my family.

Update:
They told me that they supposed to have a test car at their facility soon.
I have sent another email to the development team, offered my service to test and document. So, we’ll see what’s their next response.

So can we have a hitch on XM?
Will that be “allowed” for leases?

It’s not offered as an option on US-based vehicles; however, the wiring is already there. The same thing has coming up multiple times on the IX forum. Some aftermarket solutions were provided, but it did involve permanently modifying the vehicle.

I guess that’s not “lease friendly” 🤣

It’s stuff you would probably never see until you looked underneath the vehicle. The best thing we can hope for is a BMW retrofit kit. Unlike the IX, the XM’s are already pre-wired for towing, so perhaps that was in the planning. On the other hand, it may never see the light of day.

If there is any third-party towing kits for the XM, they will most likely involve cutting.

I was just about to give you some grief for not posting the actual URL however, there really isn’t one for the XM if you go through their wizard. This was the same exact thing on the IX. It was showing on some documents, but not others. My suggestion is to call before placing an order to make sure it’s the same part number as the other vehicles in your picture.

Some guys on the IX forum put these on their vehicles. Permanent modifications are required. It may or not matter to you. Not sure if BMW cares about these kind of modifications on leases.

As I suspected based on studying XM parts catalog comparing it to F95 XM, they both using the same hitch.
OEM hitch part numbers are the same between both cars.

Yes indeed, their wizard isn’t updated yet. My dealer is installing one next week and they’ll do mine after the holidays when I get the time to bring the car. I don’t really care as per modification since the dealer is doing it and my car is bought but I don’t believe that leases are a problem in Canada. Might be different in the US but the official retrofit exists in Ista also with the official BMW part numbers.

The installation will be as good as the guy doing the work. Don’t forget that the dealerships are not owned or managed by BMW, so this will still be considered custom work by a 3rd-party. I’m really curious to know if any programming will be required to integrate the hitch into iDrive for some sort of “towing mode” option.

There is a difference here. It’s a passive kit relaying the signal from elsewhere in the car so probably no coding involved but it might miss some BMW towing function (tow mode, disable PDC, enable tow lane keep assistant, etc) without the coding retrofit or handshake with the Can bus

I might try to mix and match the official BMW retrofit module 63115A64D38 with the Stealth Hitch beam/assembly and have it retrofitted officially in Ista by the dealer.
