No iconic sounds for XM - still true unfortunately

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
This is a real bummer. Just verified with a BMW N.A. specialist on XM sent to train my local dealer. Said the 30 mile range was not adequate to accommodate the sound package. So no Hans Zimmer for the PHEV crowd. I wonder why encourage the all electric range mode if they decide something that can’t include their iconic sounds package, which is the one thing that set them apart from all other EVs in terms of a cool feature.

I am quite bummed that this extremely expensive model is turning out to be slower than most M models, lacks the luxury and technology of the 7 series in terms of back seats, and lacks the comfier ride in place of a M suspension that is meant more for the track. Who takes an XM to the track?

Bit of a rant here as someone who has a deposit down for a build, but I’m learning about more and more shortcomings.

It’s listed on the US Pricing Guide from 9/27/22 as Standard equipment.

Watch some of the video reviews. They talk about it and you can hear them.

[QUOTE]I hope you guys are right. I did watch some YouTube reviews and have not found one that showed iconic sounds in the XM. Two reviewers commented separately about the all electric mode being quiet and peaceful. I did see videos of starting up the car and it has a futuristic electronic sound when you hit the start button.

I am attaching two screenshots of my texts with my sales agent. If true, it seems like a last second feature pull and shows that this car was really not well thought out and maybe rushed from this standpoint. May be a minor feature to sum but for me, potentially a big miss.

The demo unit I test drove this weekend was completely silent on start up in electric mode. When driving there is an electric sound but not as pronounced as i7

I think that confirms the lack of iconic sounds then, such a let down.

My dealer is doing the PDI at the moment and I rode in mine this morning briefly in the rear seat. There is a sound in electric but faint nothing like the IX. I didn’t check if you could adjust the tone and wasn’t enough attentive if it was the complete tune of iconic sounds.

gan23, congrats on your new ride! Would appreciate if you can report back after you take delivery and can really test out the electric drive. I, for one, mean to use the all electric mode for my commute, and so the feature miss is a big one for me. Thanks!

Just met with my SA, scheduled an afternoon test drive, the regional XM expert is on site, he is the one that confirmed no iconic sounds. I pointed out that it is still listed as a standard feature on BMW website. SA hinted that it was a cost cutting measure to remove the iconic sounds feature which really makes me more upset. If BMW is trying to reach a higher price point audience, they should know that that audience wants every option and feature available, that is why it’s the flagship and at highest price point.

CORRECTION: Iconic sounds are still NOT AVAILABLE for XM

ORIGINAL POST: debunked below further down

Just got this text from my SA:

“BMW N.A. rep just got here and he said it is available. He said after I asked him he went to double check with his corporate partners to make sure. We will have it on when you get here. Come with go pro in hand haha. Don’t need anymore pissed off buyers.”

I am so relieved. Sorry for creating all the confusion. It was due to bad info from this same rep from N.A. who came to train the SAs on the new car.

Do you know where you would enable/disable it? I can't find it anywhere in the XM menus on mine..

I am sorry for the back and forth. Went to the dealer today and sat in the XM with this same person that confirmed that iconic sounds are available. I said Hey BMW turn on iconic sounds and the car responded that it was not installed or available. WTF. I was royally pissed to be fed wrong info twice. My dealer is now “looking into it”. Even the sticker in the window said it included iconic sounds. BMW needs to get there act together, I’m so mad

I asked about an OTA update. Still waiting for an official response. My dealer said he will reach out to the BMW genius hotline for clarification. The guy that is being sent from BMW NA is completely clueless. False advertising indeed.

There is an additional wrinkle. I read on an IX post somewhere that said there may be a lawsuit pending or ongoing between Zimmer and BMW and that may be why the iconic sounds are crippled and being kept quiet. This seems somewhat plausible and shady. This is an unverified rumor. The poster basically said to ignore this feature because it was not what was advertised ie the sport, efficient, expressive and comfort modes as shown in original YouTube video reviews of the i suv models.

Lol I have yet to take it off sport mode …

Would be great to have those new 7i sounds, I will fiddle and explore the electric mode fully in the coming days as I drive it more.

I was told the sounds were only active when in electric only mode but subtle.. perhaps there is a setting somewhere to adjust volume or whatever? If not keep adding pressure to bmw on this as false advertising will lead to possible class action later on…

Easy fix possibly …

Checked my build sheet, it’s not listed… Perhaps it will come at some point with an OTA

Found another BMW article showing that it should be included: https://www.bmwgroup-werke.com/spart...er-BMW-XM.html

My dealer has so far not followed up with me. Starting to lose hope as the handful of new owners on this forum can’t seem to find the feature installed. Disappointing.

I can confirm when driving in electric the sound is there but super subtle - it’s almost silent however you can hear a little synthetic “jetsons” sound…

It is not like the 7 or anything similar.

Meanwhile active sound while in sport is hard to distinguish from the roar of the engine lol … no point in getting the XM to drive in electric lol there are better options if that’s the focus.
