Little things go a long way...

So after a ski trip upstate last weekend, I noticed the X7 had a vibration while braking at highway speeds. I made a service appointment for today (earliest they had with a loaner) to check that issue out as well as the sticky fuel door and the sticky center armrest. Not impressive for a car with 2500 miles on it, but the not end of the world either.

However, all is forgiven when I see the loaner they set me up with...

Nice, what dealer is this? I'm happy if I get something other than an X1 or leftover 320i at mine (smaller dealer with 20 new cars on the lot, but it's 1 mile from my house). Granted, my SA has picked up and dropped my cars off at my house and office while I was out of town, locked them up in a delivery room overnight, etc., so I can't say they don't show respect for my purchases.

It's a big dealer in Westbury, Long Island (I'm new to this forum so I don't know if we're allowed to discuss dealer names).

Yeah, I'm no VIP and I've definitely driven my share of X1's and 320's as well. Heck, once I even got a loaner so stripped it didn't have a reverse camera or parking sensors on it. That was a while back and yes, 1st world problems right? That's the trade off between a smaller and volume dealer I guess. I can imagine the look I would get if I asked my SA to deliver/pickup my car.

The other thing I take from this is that the X3M may not be selling that well if they're putting it in the loaner fleet.

It's the closest thing the US will ever get to an M3 Touring.

I just came back from running some errands with it, driving a mix of highways, local roads and in parking lots. Out of respect for the dealer, I didn't drive it like I did at the Ultimate Driving Event but I pushed it a little when I could. These reflections will inherently speak to where I am in life as much as the cars themselves.

The X7 is quiet. It's a quiet car compared to other lux SUVs and the difference is even greater when compared to the X3M. I drove a WRX for 3 years so I know what a loud car sounds like and I'm not sure if I would anymore at this age. Somehow, the X3M seems noisier than the last M4 I drove.

The X7 is properly posh. I've read auto journalists complain that the BMW interiors/switch gear are the same whether in a 3 or a 7. While the designs may be similar and there is overlap in some switch gear, there really is no comparison in the overall feel.

The X7 is fast enough. This X3M is not the Competition and I really cannot appreciate in day-to-day driving how much faster this X3M is than my car. The 50i really moves and with very little drama.

Love the X3M handling. BMW really did a fantastic job tuning the X3M suspension. Flat...controlled impact-harshness...dialed in just right. I really disliked the way the F15 handled, too soft to be sporty but at the same time too much impact harshness that it starts to be annoying . That said, the X7 in comfort mode gave my wife a little motion sickness when we first got the car.

I suppose if you can only have 1 car, a high performance SUV maybe the answer. For me, I'd prefer my performance vehicle to have a lower center of gravity. For the same money...maybe an M2 and a generic CUV/SUV? What is not debatable though, is that BMW is on the right track with their current portfolio.

Awesome review. I just turned my X6M in and am picking up X7 M50 on Friday. I hope not to be disappointed.

Depends on the dealer you go to, one dealer gave me a hertz rental car, another gave me a 2020 740i M sport when I dropped off yesterday.
