Remote software upgrade

Have a 2020 x7. Wanted to upgrade the software. Mine is on 07.2019. How can I upgrade it to the newest version. When I check it says there are no updates available. I want to add Spotify. Thanks in advance.

This feature is not implemented in the US yet. Some users of UK and Australia have reported that OTA Update (aka remote software update) is working for them.

Thanks. That makes sense on why its not working, but is a bummer for sure.

Do you mean OTA for owners does not work in the U.S., so he has to take it into the dealership for the update every time? If so, is there a cost to update? I believe I saw that they will update 4x per year at no cost.

Yes that's pretty much.

I don't know about 4x free updates in a year. That would be good option. My dealer didn't update the software last time I took it in for the CarPlay issue. They just returned it to me saying "they could not replicate the issue". They probably rebooted the iDrive system and it fixed it.

However, usually, the dealers would update the software if your car is in for any issues and that if a software update is required by it.

That doesn't make sense. What is the point of releasing new features based on software updates if they are not included with the car?

So are you saying software update at dealer isn't free?

kind of go inline with what my service advisor told me. I hope this isn't the case, if OTA update that work, shouldn't it be the dealer's responsibility to update it as a warranty service?

They don't charge any fee but at least those in my area do not just take it in for a software update purpose only (unless there is a recall; which was actually there back in Aug-Sept 2019).

With my 07/2019.55 version software they say that its the most up to date version they have whereas I see in here some users have 11/2019.40 with them.

OTA was promised to all US users by BMW but they have failed to implement it yet. Bad planning!

I’m currently running 3/2019.35 and the car is in the shop for the rear camera recall; what version should I expect when I get the car back tomorrow?

That should probably get 11/2019.4x. It's just my guess.

What is the Rear camera recall? I have been having rear camera malfunction error messages. Took it in once for this already and they claim they replaced the rear camera module but I have still had it malfunction multiple times since getting it back 4 to 5 days ago. Very frustrating.

Not sure but my dealer has been pesky in asking me to bring the car in to get it corrected for over a month. I’ll ask later today when I pick it up.

They had to order me a new key as I was having frequent comfort access problems where the car wouldn’t recognize me or start. Others were reporting that too.

Drove me nuts. Never once had a problem, then took it in for the “fix” and software upgrade, and have had the rear camera malfunction a couple of times. Some fix.

I got mine back from the shop today with 11/2019.55. Still checking on what has changed. I find no cosmetic changes so far.
