I have been lurking around the rennlist community for a while now. Right now I am stuck deciding between the Turbo 997.2 with PDK or the 997.2 C4S. The Turbo is just a sick sick car. Once you put the pedal down, its like afterburners on an aircraft, you get that half second delay the turbos spool up and boom your gone... Seriously you are gone!!!. Surprisingly the Turbo has a pretty relaxing ride for me. Stiffer than the C4S, but good enough for daily driving. The handling is just as the acceleration, unreal! You really have to try this car to understand it. You have that initial under steer at high speed cornering and then it is just grip grip grip. Best part of this car for me personally... being this fast, it does not feel isolated from the road or the acceleration as the M5. When you go fast, you know your going fast.

Dave, Was installing the Front and Rear Sway bars easy? And did you go with the competition package sway bars or Dinan's? I'm contemplating going with the competition package springs and dampers along with front and rear sway bars. |

I have a F10 M5 and a 991 Carrera S. You can't compare them. First, from all the research I gathered before I got the 991 it was; pretty much don't bother with the 997's. The 991 has come a vast distance compared to it's predecessor. It by far is an amazing car. Coming out of the M5 into the Carrera you will be disappointed by acceleration, however handling will overshadow that feeling. I have a love affair with both of those cars. My M5 is my wife and my 911 is my girlfriend. Theres just things you can do with the 911 you just can't do with the M5...But at the end of the day, I still truly love my M5.
If you wanna hear some nice engine sounds, heres a clip from me the first time at a track with a Porsche. Tires were cold cause it was only 55 degrees out. Next time with warmer temps I will push her harder. If you're wondering why my friend is holding the dash is because he's paralyzed from the waist down and it took every ounce of strength for him not to be thrown around. Getting acquainted with rear engine was a new a different concept for me. It is truly astounding how much that ass just sticks to the ground. |

I am familiar with rear engine layout (2003 Porsche 911) currently in my possesion.
I have a family car X5 so its not like the turbo would be my first car. 997 Turbo for me is a perfect bargain for now. Yes its not the newest, but I am not looking for the newest. 997.2 Turbo 0-60 3.0 1/4 mile around 10.9 to 11.0... that is plenty for me, and did I mention 5,000miles on the car for 100k? Then in a couple years ill advance to the 991 Turbo S :-D

I went from a 996 to a 997 to the M5 (I also have an S4 mainly for winter use). I live in the middle of Boston and this 5er is just too big and ponderous in a northeastern city. I started driving 5ers in the 80s, so I think I've earned the right to say that this car is not BMW's best effort.
I traded my 15 month old M5 for a 991 today.
