Gotcha. You are probably right. With our x5 we would go through at least 6 tires per year because of nails and the coverage came in handy.

Dude that is a lot of nails a year. For you the coverage makes sense.

We live in a ocean community and they are building a lot of new stuff. Nails all over the place.

Yes, in Bay Area, CA the problem is compounded by the fact that almost all of the sales associates are foreigners with really bad english, especially in writing. So you get hounded every day by e-mails like "come in now, make good deal" which is just so insulting from a sales-relationship standpoint, but if 80% of their clientele responds to that, then those are the sales people they put in front of clients. In one case I had a guy telling me to come in and test drive an X7 that I already confirmed had been sold and was unavailable for a test drive. They just want to get you into the store, waste your time, make you feel like there's no deal possible because the car is more special than you and on and on. It's really unbelievable that it's so fucking hard to just put $100k down on a car and actually be treated with some amount of dignity and respect by someone who can not only speak english, but isn't a total complete douchbag without any education whatsoever and who definitely knows WAY less about the cars that you do. I mean seriously, I could give classes to these sales people on the features and functionality of the cars by the time I come in, and 98% of the sales people never even bother to learn a single unique thing about the cars they are selling. It's an absolutely disgusting, horrible experience and I can't stand it! I mean seriously, you get treated better at Starbucks 99% of the time buying a friggin' $5 cup of coffee than you do buying a $100k vehicle, it's just unbelievable!

That’s just crazy to hear. It sounds like you live in another world... Complete opposite of our local dealer. I’ve built a relationship with these guys over the past 15 years, even as people move on, the relationship evolves.

I've been saying that for years. I don't expect them to know if the engine has titanium valves, but maybe peruse the options list or take a couple hours and make a cheat sheet on the models you sell?

I agree. I replaced all 4 tires in the first 3 yrs of my X5 (runflat tires). None of them was nail related, only pot holes and curbs. I had wheel & tire protection plan but it barely broke even when you add the $50 out-of-pocket. So the protection was not worth it unless I needed 5 or 6 six tire replacements. This is a casino thing, the house always wins at the end of the day. Let's remember that the protection plan does not cover the normal tire wear & tear. For my X7, I decided to go non-runflat 21" without protection plan.

With BMW's year end results being lower than expected you would think that the company will come down on its dealer network to do a much better job.

The BMW sales person who showed me the car didn't know the hp on the 40i. He had to pull up his iphone to verify when I told him it's 336. He also didn't know how to fold the seats flat, get into the third row or even the color of the car (Carbon black).

He did however know that customers 'are using up the battery, so we have to charge it all the time'.

I consider most sales reps to be utterly useless. Hence me doing my research here.

Mercedes will surpass BMW in sales in no time. They have much better follow up and customer service.

I agree, when my wife had her Mercedes we were always treated really well by the dealership.

That said, I don't think BMW's service dept. is that bad in my area. They are super busy, but the service reps are usually pretty good. I think you probably need to be a little better in the IQ dept. to be a service rep than a sales rep, ironically.

Part of the reason I'm going back to BMW from my Range Rover is because the Range Rover's service dept. in my area has to be the worst customer service of any car dealership I've ever been to. It's almost the opposite there: they'll kill you with kindness in the Sales Dept. to get you to buy the vehicle, but then when it comes time to get your vehicle serviced, you get treated like shit while paying upwards of $1000 for the annual service. They don't even do loaner vehicles anymore but will "pay for your Uber ride home or back to work...."

My buddy owns a shop that focuses on British cars and he is constantly busy as they have multiple problems.
