X7 Front License Plate - whatcha doing?

Here in the Commonwealth of Virginia we are required by law to have a front and rear license plate.

On my F80 M3 I used the tow cap mounted holder and, while the offset through off the symmetry of the car, I thought it looked just fine.

Just took delivery on a Black Sapphire X7 4.0 and, as always, told the dealer not to trill holes for the front plate bracket.

Now that I'm looking at the car, I'm not even sure how the place would fit in the front. Between the PDC sensors, the grill, and the adaptive cruise control sensors/tech there's not where to put a US sized license plate. Notice how all the market photos show it with a European style front plate.

Anyway, just wondering what y'all are thinking of doing. Photos would be helpful. I'm debating between letting them drill, using 3M double sided tape (there is an Xpel crest bra over the entire front end of the car so I would risk damage to the paint with this option), or using another tow hook mounted bracket.

Thoughts???

Wondered same. I have no clue where mine should go. Will ask my dealer. Looking around at IG pics it seems to be installled in consistently the same spot whether Europe or US but it seems like a tough place to drill holes. Want to optimize placement and minimize user error in placing it

Thanks for the photos all. I have to say it looks very "crowded" where it is. No interference issues with the radar/sonar/PDC sensors?

I could see Tesla screwing that up but no other company, really.

Here in California front plate is required too. The CHP or the local cops 🚓 don't bother you too much. Had a couple of them say you really should have front plate and if you ever get a ticket for speeding they may tack it on .

Having lived in VA for 35+ years, I never ran a front plate and never got pulled over for it. I moved to FL almost 10 years ago and they dont require it, so I'm good. But my point is, you should be fine with no front plate, and I ran with some pretty sporty cars and never got hassled, even as an add-on to speeding I never got a ticket for it.

I'm in NY, and am running no front plate, for now at least. Some years ago when I was pulled over for a moving violation in my laguna seca blue M3, the cop hassled me and gave me an add on ticket for having no front plate. Not sure if the same will happen here, but for now, I'm rolling without one.

For you guys that go no front plate -- do you leave a plate in your windshield on the dash? Or do you not even bother? I have mine inside the windshield now thinking a cop is less likely to hassle me at least for doing that. But curious to hear what others are doing.

I keep it in seat back pocket behind front passenger. If I were ever to get pulled over( knock on wood!) I'd just pull it out and throw it in front windshield. If asked I'd explain that my front plate has been stolen on the past and my front bumper damaged in an area that I work in and fear that again. Have been running no front plate for 10 years at least and tints darker than state law with no problem.

Since this is my Wife's SUV, for hauling around the fam dam, it's an absolute no brainer to mount the plate. On my M5 and other "toys" in my stable, I have no plate.

I found this but it's bit pricey for a damn bracket, but since I don't wanna hole my beauty I my give a try. What do you think?

I'm using the www.skenebrackets.com plate holder with no interference with the distance sensor.

Hold on
You don't seem to have that huge sensor in the middle, otherwise it'd be a pain. Tried it and alerts and distronic went heywire on me

A year or so of ownership here. Haven’t had a plate on in NY. Got ticketed just once, when parked in a parking lot, by an overzealous local meter maid. Never pulled over for it (knocking on wood).

I have the Skene bracket mounted as high up as I can and have the big sensor below the center of the bumper and have no issues with the drivers assist.

The license plate bracket came along with the car purchase and was installed by the dealer when I received the license plate.
