Any regrets with M60i?
I saw a few threads/posts from folks who have a 40i and they are either itching or wish they had gone for the M60i instead. I am in that camp as I bought a xdrive 40i a month ago and I keep going back and forth on the M60i idea. Love how smooth the 40i is in stop/go traffic and urban areas but when I go uphill, the engine does not feel as effortless as M60i would so in those situations I am like, I wish I had bought the M60i. However, hard to beat the mpg you get with the 40i (yes I know at this price point nobody cares about MPG from the $ perspective, but having to visit the gas station less often is a nice perk).
I was wondering if anyone who owns an M60i/M50i has any regrets about it or wish they had gone with the xdrive 40i? and why? |

I only wish I had it when I want to super cruise at 100mph. Otherwise, 80mph and below, the 40i is fine. But 22-25mpg is awesome for a 3 ton land yacht. 400 miles I’d mixed driving per tank is also convenient especially being my local Costco Gas is 10 miles from me.

No regrets and i will never go back to smaller engine unless there is no option. The extra power when you need it is the main reason I will never go back.

I have 2 regrets: Captain chairs implemented here suck and my gas bill. I bought mine as a CPO 7m ago and there weren't any comparable EV SUVs at the time so watching the EV market like a hawk.
Otherwise, it's a hoot to drive and it's a great combo/all-in-1 car. |

I agree on the captain chairs. Bench is the way to go on X7 IMHO. |

I'm coming from an XC90. I get that it's a V8 but I have a 2-3hr roundtrip commute day, 3-4 days a week and my Costco gas trips are annoying AF. The only way I justified it at the time was how much less the M50i was to the next comparable EV SUV and even a comparable GLS580 at the time.

To clarify further, I originally wanted a 40i but so few CPOs have all the options. My original test drive was on a deck-out 40i which is what got me hooked on an X7 but the CPO market was really slim. Once I drove a M50i, it was over for me but the power comes with a significant cost. I bring up EV SUV because my R1S test drive spanks a M50i and what drives me nuts is that their current lease deals now would have been within my budget at the time.

This is my sentiment 100%, and the main reason I got the iX. I would love to switch to an X7 but I can't see myself going back to full ICE for my car (have wife's car for that), but if they randomly decided to release an iX7 (now instead of the expected one in a few years) I would be first in line to put down a deposit.

Just out curiosity as I wait for my custom build m60i, how many of y’all financed vs leased? Most telling me don’t even think about financing due to 50% depreciation after 3 years.. would love any feedback. Thanks!

First, I doubt that the depreciation will be 50% over that period of time. Second, what does it have to do with whether you finance it or not? I prefer financing for two reasons: you can usually deploy the money elsewhere with a higher ROI and gap insurance will let you walk away without owing a cent in case something happens to the car. The latter is especially important if you assume quick depreciation.

I did option 3: Purchased my absolutely fully loaded 2020 X7M50i outright. Considering what I know now with the elimination of high tier options after 2020, it was the smartest move I could have made. I keep my vehicles long term.

I went from a 23 40i to a 23 M60i. Only regrets not specific to the M60i: the massage/ventilated seats are stiff, I preferred sensafin. Specific to M60i: gas mileage is brutal if you drive it with pep in your step. Like really bad. Hurting on my two hour daily commute - about $100/week at least. And then the throttle response at slow speeds shows hesitation compared to the 40i.
Buying again, I’d still choose the M60i though, because it’s just plain unnecessary for a family commuter in all the best ways. |

Just picked one up for the wife. I love it and she loves it. Not just the engine, but the addition of the all wheel steering makes it handle amazing. It also gets incredible gas mileage from my perspective, my daily is a TRX which has mileage I can count on my fingers, on a good day i can add my thumbs 😂
Considering getting one for myself I like it so much. Wonder what it’s like with a tune 🤔

I think the mpg in my X7M50i is great. Just came back from our 3rd 2800 mile extended road trip and the range and mpg is excellent considering I am 85mph+ a lot of the highway driving from PA to Florida. The ride is still THE best for covering a lot of miles in a day than any other luxury sedan I have owned. It has THE longest legs of maintaining higher speeds effortlessly than any other cars on the road around me while flying under the radar. It just seems to have unlimited power and the isolation/detachment of speed and road noise at high speeds is bizarre. This is what reduces extended road fatigue better than significantly faster performance cars in this application.
Wife can’t tell if I am going 85mph or triple digits . We even play the “how fast am I going?” game with her eyes shut, she can’t tell the speed. FYI: I take the 22”ers off and use 21”AS for these long distance trips in mixed weather. Last edited by MystroX5; 05-21-2024 at 07:58 PM.. |

I have a 23 m60 and have always tried to buy a different model than most running around. This way when I do sell or trade it will be wanted more than a 40i.
I paid cash and normally keep about 8 yrs before selling. The only option I didn’t want was the hands free driving. Still unsure but I like to be in control. I rarely use cruise either |

I'm going to add a 3rd regret: lack of interior space. Barely any space behind the 3rd row and space between the 2 captains chairs isn't big enough for someone to walk across. I park next to a GLS at work some times and they're basically the same length so like wtf happened?!....

These are our very large rolling cases and I can pack them in a variety of ways in the X7. In a G05 X5 there is absolutely no room for even a duffel bag in the rear when we traveled with cases this big. |
