Do you think I give a hoot that the Subaru is a little faster? I trust my life to this car and right now there are very few other cars I would do that with.
Great point and I agree, most cars are tin cans.

Cars like the subaru are designed to offer smoking 0-60 times. But then after 60 they start loosing power and then a BMW would start to walk it.

Absolutely correct. If some jerk in a Suburu blows past you, ignore him. Then follow him, not closely, but within view. Usually there's always extra traffic around but, at the right moment with enough empty road in front of you, you could leave him eating dust.

Granted you may have to hit 90 mph, but that only takes what? 8 or 9 seconds? Then you can slow down with a big grin and watch out for police radar.

One of the mags posed 0-60 at 5.5 secs. I too was not to happy with the 0-60 times until I ran into an e36 M3. Light to light about 0-75mph he had me by just about a car length. I tend to think it might just be the way the car feels during acceleration.

So you're saying that one car length behind an E36 M3 is good, right?
That would be my feeling.
So basically, the E90 is like an E46 ZHP.

That's not too bad at all. Sounds like it'd be a pretty close run with the E46 ZHP then.

Try riding in the passenger seat and I'm sure you'll feel it There is no way the acceleration around 80 in 3rd gear is higher than that from a full stop. Your body must just be compensating for the push back because it's expected at that time. Passengers do not compensate nearly as much because they don't control the pedals.

You do know that if you put a different exhaust and do a software update on a WRX STi it puts out nearly the same HP of a E46 M3?

You don't stand a chance of an E90 330i. I'm pro BMW (alwats have been), but I have friends with WRXs, there is not a chance in hell of a 330i (stock) smokin' and STi or a heavily mod'ed WRX.

Obviously a E90 330 can not compete with a standard or modded STI and expect to win. However a stock E46 M3 will start to walk a slightly modded STI after 60 cuz the STI looses power after 60. I once raced a 2003 WRX with exhaust in my mothers 2004 Lexus LS430 from a stop. From 0-60 we were the same and then after 60 i started to gain big distance on him. We later pulled over and he told me that he expected to beat me off the line but was suprised at my car and knew that after i would hit 3rd gear he would be toast.

Subaru makes the impreza in WRX and WRX-STI. Iam almost certain that on a nice strip of road a 330 would beat a 2005 WRX (not STI). Maybe someone can do it and make a video??

What is it with all the complaints about the 0-60mph acceleration compared to the rice rocket cars? So the 3 is not the fastest car but it's in a completely different league from the Subaru's, Mitsubishi's, etc. If you're looking for pure speed than maybe the 3 is not the car for you, but if you're looking for a mix of quality, luxury, looks and overall extraordinary driving experience than this is the car. If you have some extra money than an M3 would be an option. You can't expect BMW to make the 3 any faster until the new M3 comes out. They need to leave a gap between the 3 and the M3 or else there would be no reason to buy an M3. I also don't know why people complain about how BMW's are too expensive. Using the G35 as a comparison...yes it is close to 5k less than a 330 but things you need to put into consideration is that it doesn't offer the same driving experience, quality and feel of materials and whether you like paying for it or not...status. These seem to be most important to a majority of BMW buyers and if money is such a big concern than a BMW is probably too much for your budget.

This was also discussed in another thread, but the most recent Road & Track issue just tested the 330 6 speed 0-60mph at 6.2 seconds and Car & Driver got a 5.6 in its April article. If we split the difference that's a respectable 5.9. Obviously 0-60 times are not the end all otherwise 3 series cars would never have sold well in the past or as well as E90's are selling now. As has been said many times there's certain other elements that make the 3 series the ultimate sports sedan/coupe.

R&T:

E90 330i - 6-speed manual
0-60: 6.2 seconds
1/4 mile: 14.9 @ 94.1 mph
0-100: 16.9 seconds
Skidpad: 0.83g
Slalom: 66.6 mph
80-0 braking: 209 ft

Car & Driver on the other hand got a 5.6 0-60 back in April

Zero to 30 mph: 1.9
40 mph: 3.0
50 mph: 4.4
60 mph: 5.6
70 mph: 7.7
80 mph: 9.7
90 mph: 11.8
100 mph: 15.3
110 mph: 18.8
120 mph: 22.9
130 mph: 29.1
Street start, 5-60 mph: 6.0
Top-gear acceleration, 30-50 mph: 9.5
50-70 mph: 8.6
Standing 1/4-mile: 14.3 sec @ 98 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 155 mph

Subaru Legacy GTget a good 0-60 is because of its AWD just all other AWD cars. Like my Evo for instance on my G-tech I was able to get 4.7 to 4.9 all the time.

Exactly what is the governor limited top speed of the US spec 330i? I 've seen 155, 149, & 130.
