Extended leather question
Thinking of selecting this option, but just wondering for those that have it, with all of the lower dash panels now covered in leather are there any issues with the panels squeaking, especially as the leather ages? BMW has done such a good job with keeping the dash tight, but am wondering if the leather covering is as well engineered?

A few potential reasons...when leather touches leather it can make noise. The lower dash was designed for not having leather, so when you take those same panels and wrap them in leather, tolerances change, friction of adjacent panels changes, etc. All of the above can certainly be solved/dealt with I assume, but just wondering if they've done that. Would hate to pay extra for extended leather and get a noisey interior as a result. Thanks for all the feedback, seems like its not an issue to worry about.

I have the black extended leather. Although it doesn't stand out as much as other colors, I still think it's worth it. With less plastic visible and the nice leather, it makes the interior look more sleek and luxurious. Just my opinion Also, no squeaking in mine.

Thanks for all the input. If I go with Space Gray I'll get Fox Red and if I go with Melbourne Red, I'll go with Black. Yes, the black makes the extended leather seem a little pointless, but I think I agree with Erio that it would still be nice to have. Definitely a luxury, but what the heck.

Have you seen the fox red in person? It looks quite a bit different than pictures. You cannot order just the extended portions in a different color from the seat color. Of course if I didn't like the extended portions in red, I could have just not ordered the extended.

Oh yeah, and didn't do it for me. I've had several cars with red interior (including an E46 vert), but the more classy red, which is more of a burgundy. Fox red is more of a brown than red, or brownish red if you will. Just a matter of preference. And I suspected you couldn't order a different color on extended indeed, but just threw it out there .
All that matters is that you like it; that's why these threads make little sense to me. Take care. |
