I couldn't agree more. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do something. I'm sure some of you have already read this on my past posts, but when I look into the crystal ball I see the 2023 lci costing more based on what is happening economically, coupled with a touch screen component that cost less than electrical/mechanical controls. Higher price, lower cost, no brainer for manufacturer, but not sold on it being a benefit for consumers.

I'm also still not convinced this split headlight thing isn't going to be one of those in hindsight disasters come the late 2020s. I may be wrong on it, but I still haven't seen a vehicle on the road to date that this has turned out ok. Maybe bmw will nail it but imho no one else has so far.

S***, my wife’s old 2004 G35’s infotainment screen popped up and pushed down on demand… that was indeed nice, when you wanted it out of the way!!

Hated the fact it was joystick only and not touchscreen though.

Certainly one of the most disputed ones…

But my version IS better than the refresh. Or prettier. Or more popular. Or whatever.

I wouldn't read much into this. They put whatever side mirrors on there, doesn't mean they are going to put those on the LCI and there would be no reason to….the M50i isn't a M car.

I don’t technically own either version yet. I tossed an order in for an M50 last week because frankly the new front end looks like turd so far and I don’t need a 55” screen in my car and be a free beta tester for iDrive 8. (One of the reasons I avoided the GLS).

This is the first time I have intentionally ever tried to dodge the newer model of anything.

I am a huge fan of evolutionary design. BMW seems to no longer be on that path.

Land Rover seems to get this better than BMW at the moment. They even abandoned their silly dial shifter and avoided a unibrow dashboard. Will see how we like the X7 while they work the kinks out of the new Range Rover.

It’s a solid classic…. Unlike what BMW’s design department has started cranking out.

I hope the Chinese market loves the latest M3, the XM, and whatever they are planning to do to the X7.

They probably do and also dwarf the US market in terms of BMW sales…

Yup. Not on the x series cars or X7 though. US is still 60% of the total X series sales BMW makes. We like SUV’s.

Otherwise last I looked, they sold twice as many cars in China

I'm happy for you if you feel like you made the right decision. But, by going into threads about the LCI, and criticizing it, you're not giving off that impression. It seems more like confirmation bias. You said you're intentionally trying to dodge the newer model but you can't stop commenting about it.

Confirmation bias happens after you've made a big purchase and want feel like it was money well spent. You want to justify your purchase, to not only to feel like you've got your money's worth but to also protect your ego from admitting you made a bad choice.

Enjoy your new X7, it's going to be amazing. You'll never find me criticizing it, as I'll be too busy enjoying the positive things about the upcoming LCI.

This is the first time I've intentionally ever tried to force myself to wait this long for an LCI or new generation because of how incredible I think all the changes are shaping up to be.

Very silly and elementary . I post in many forums since I have a variety of cars.

All posts are based on personal opinion.

No forum is a safe space where I should have to blow sunshine up the tailpipe of people who have a different opinion than I do.

Forums are about a dialog about cars, different opinions, etc.

I am sure there will be some things I like better about the LCI but I can’t say I have loved BMW’s latest direction.

You can spend your money as you wish. Honestly, for me it’s not that big of a deal. Cars come and go. This is just another horse in the barn. Not a life changing decision.

If BMW manages to build my car without missing parts, I am excited. If BMW delivers an incomplete car they can keep it. If the LCI is announced next month and I love it I am sure my dealer would be happy to sell my build at 5k over MSRP and order me an LCI.

We have plenty of other things to drive in the mean time.

I completely agree with what I quoted above. With that said, still seems like confirmation bias.

Actually as bmw has been refreshing vehicles they are adding the aero mirrors as a design element to m performance line cars.
X3/x4 m40i lci got them
M240 has them

M340 lci has been testing with them
Expect the x7 m50 to have them

Diluting the M ethos even further.

What's hilarious is that those mirrors are a result of wind tunnel testing to reduce the drag coefficient. Putting them on an SUV is akin to having a carbon fiber hood on a 1978 Lincoln.
