Just get the 335 loaded then after a few years that u've mastered driving (i'm guessing u should be under 18) get the M3. This 335 is so damn good that i wouldn't want a M3 just yet. So go for the 335 loaded and have fun....then get the M3 and have even more fun with the skills that you developed from the 335.
I agree cuz that was my original plan why get a extreme sports car when uve got a sports car thats good enouph till you can buy your own car for you to enjoy when your older and have that satisfaction its frustrating lol

But oooohhhhh, what a way to learn to drive a manual.

I say go with the M3. 335's may be almost as fast with mods but there's nothing like the handling, speed and confidence that an M car gives.

I dont know your age. You sound like my littler brother (17), so im assuming you are 16-19. At age 16-19 i would recommend the 335i. It cheaper, more driveable , easier clutch, and most of the girls i know, they cant tell the difference between the 335i and the M3. All they hear is "bimmer" or "mercedez" or "Porsche"...not by 335 or M3. Despite how confident you may sound when driving these 40k+, statistically, you will end up damaging your car from minor - major damage. At least the 335i parts will be a bit cheaper. Twin turbo setup's are more tunable.

Now, if your in your low 20's (i am 22 myself)..I would get the M3. I love what they did on the body of the car. I dont really care about the V8 (i am very satisfied with the twin turbos of the car), but by the looks of the car, I can see myself spending the extra dough for the M3. When my lease is up (33months from now), I will debate if i want to buyout the car, BUY the new M3, or lease the new Porsche Cayman S coming out next year.

Yes. I will change my mind very soon, i have no doubt about it, but since its a first car, i wouldn't wanna get an M3 as a first car and learn prformance driving with it. I'd rather learn the proper way of performance driving and get used to BMW's manual tranny then get the M3 and have ll the fun...lol

right on! so just get the 335 and mod it and have fun, and also, as some one else already mentioned, non of the girls know the difference between an M3 and a 335, so ur set from that point of view
good luck on your purchase and i hope you make the right choice so you don't regret it.

Get the 335 with the bells and whistles. You'll look like a douche with an M3 at your age. Trust me.

why do people keep asking questions about the 335 and M3?

It is obvious! BUY THE M3!

Ahh it must be so nice to drive a M3

^^ Of course. If anyone had a choice between getting either car for free, you pick the M3.

To the OP - maybe $6K different if you look at M3 base price versus your 335i loaded, but have your parents thought about the difference in insurance costs? The difference is likely to be HUGE. Teenage driver + M3 = guaranteed expensive wreck, as far as the insurance companies are concerned.

At your (assumed) age, and being that it's your first car, do not start off in an M. Then again, at your age, I would've chosen the M3 without a blink. The M is a lot of car, and can be dangerous in inexperienced hands. A young kid in an M will DEFINITELY get many challenges from other drivers on the street. If you do get the M, please learn to keep your "car penis" in check when you get revved on.

Like I said, at your age, I honestly would have gone with the M, cuz I would not have had the will power to turn away from it. I'm positive that if I had an M3 at that time (it woulda been an E30, yes I'm old ), I would have at the very least crashed it. Great speed and handling is a privilege, but it can also give you a false sense of your driving limitations.

GL with you decision tho. If you decide on the 335 for the "right" reasons, then much to you. You would already be way ahead of me at your age.

From now on, I think that if anyone asks the question 335i or M3, they should buy the M3 because they're ont going to put the energy in modding their 335 to the next level.

So for you, well-intentioned OP, get an M3

In another note, as far as image is concerned, when I was a teenager, I would've easily picked the 335. I was always one of those well off kids that always tried to hide it. It was always cooler to have the fast modded car than the expensive stock one... damn I miss the old days

Maybe I'm just old school, but I think you're missing out by having a 335i, let alone the M3, as your first car. Part of the joy of learning to drive well is exploiting the limits of a car that isn't a rocket ship, understanding how to exploit a limited power band, placing the car correctly in the corners, etc. With the BMW you'll have too much power and all the electronic trickery to fool you into thinking you know how to drive.

I obviously wouldn't have said no to such a great car in your shoes, but in the long term I do think it will make you enjoy driving less to start out in either a 335i or the M3.

oh my........

I love it.........."only 6k over what my parents would pay for the 335"

at 16, 6k should be a fortune to you. My first car barely cost 6k.

if the m3 would be your first car, then i wonder what's gonna be next after you get bored of it? who's gonna pay for your next car then?

i'd say stick w/ the loaded 335 now. at least you'll get more gadgets to play with than just a tech package.

I added around 10k worth of options minus the active cruise and steering on my 335 coupe so msrp came out to around 52. If the m3 coupe base is about 56k and you add the same options i'm assuming it will msrp at around 66k. I doubt you will be able to get any discount them and if anything a markup, so it's actually a good amount of difference price wise. If you can afford it, more power to you. I personally have that "avoid a new car in its first year" kind of mentality. That's just me though and my opinion. But what the hell do I know, my car's stock.

Ya know, I would not normally comment on this kind of thing but this thread makes me *SICK*. SICK. I am almost 40 years old, have busted my ass all my life for what I have, raised two kids (both teenagers now) and this kid is having his parents buy him a premium car? I would not consider this if I have 2 Bil in the bank. This is why people like Paris Hilton exist.

"Which should I get an M3 or a 335?" Jeez, what sane human being would post this? Especially someone who cant drive a stick? Go test drive them and learn wtf they are about and make your own decision rather than coming on here and asking this kind of question. You deserve to be flamed over and over for this thread.

I'm sorry, but is anyone else here a parent? Does anyone else think this is insane? This is the kind of thing that makes me want to go buy a clunker myself and sell my BMW.

I think Ill go buy a Honda.

I think a 328i is a perfect beginner's car if one was to get a Bimmer, but not a 335i/M3.
