BMW gave clarification around the tests performed. One of the reasons bmw got poor rating is because car wasn't monitoring the driver when driver is required to hold steering wheel. Thats is speed above 40mph on X1 drive assist.
BMW said it was designed that way and don't see a need for changing it. The camera only is active during full drive assist under 40mph and in case of x7 and other premium models camera is active when ever full drive assist kicks in. It is matter of expectation around safety parameters , but nothing else. Regardless, BMW's self drive is impressive and does what it is designed to do. we don't have to second guess that for sure. |

If we are to look in that direction even seat belt clips are available to buckle and fool system. Then crash ratings should also come down. The test at hand is how vehicle handled when allowed to drive by itself with the described boudnaries. |
