Interesting how much investment there is. 15Billion for a low volume bridge.

The sheer scale of this is hard for me to comprehend coming from the Isle of Man which is circa 33miles long by 13.5miles wide.

This, the longest sea crossing bridge is 34 miles long!! At one point it goes under sea.

34 miles! Almost Chester to Manchester M56.

I was out there just a couple of weeks ago and had a great view from the cable car to the big Buddha on Lantau, and also a few years ago on the ferry to Macau, where I could see it under construction. It is quite phenomenal to behold.

It's just a drop in the ocean in the overall infrastructure investment that China is making these days.

Makes the palava we have over HS2, cross rail, widening the motorway network etc seem a little ridiculous.

I was on holiday, visiting relatives, checking out my mums memorial out there. I did actually pop in to our offices out there in my own time, as know a few ex-UK colleagues now there. I'd be there in a jiffy if I could persuade Mrs Tengocity that the ex-pat life for a few years was a good idea.

China has loads of cash as they are spying by putting tiny chips onto server motherboards and stealing data

It's an impressive structure. I've been over the Copenhagen/malmo Oresund bridge which seemed impressive, but is about 1/4 the length of this one!

Helps that China are pretty handy at building islands

Indeed, you could say individual rights are above the needs of collective society here, whereas it's more the other way around there.

Pros and cons with both ways!

Depending on whether you're a high up official or not!

Interesting piece on BBC news about the HS2 project being the biggest archaeological project ever undertaken in Europe with over 1000 archaeologists working on it, no wonder everything takes so long over here, they will have to dig up and bury 10,000's of people.

One of the first elements around Euston involves relocating an ancient mass graveyard (between Ibis and Thistle (former)hotels if you know it..) so I can imagine the whole works being complex...

Don't think so... not open to private cars, so cant imagine bikes would be allowed.
