Grinding sound/vibrating when steering wheel adjusts to driver's saved position

Is anyone experiencing a funny vibrating and grinding noise when steering wheel adjusts to driver's saved position? I just starting to experience this sound+feeling in my 2021 X7 M50i. It happens when the steering wheel/columns adjusts to the saved position. It is repeatable, as follows. Turn the vehicle off, open the driver's door, and the steering wheel telescopes in (towards the engine) and raises, to make it easier to exit. Close the driver's door. Press the start button. The steering column lowers and telescopes outward the driver driver. As it is moving, there is a fairly loud grinding/vibrating noise and it physically vibrates (like the lane departure vibrating). Does anyone else have this?

I never noticed, that I can remember, over the past 18 months of ownership since CPO purchase. I upgraded iDrive to 11/23 last week. I sat in the vehicle during that upgrade. At some point during the upgrade, the steering wheel began to move around, and I definitely heard it at that point. It startled me, because I was sitting there in total silence, engine off, watching the progress bar on the screen, and then buuuzzz as the steering wheel and column began to move around.

Has anyone experienced this in the past with their G07? Is this normal? Or is something wrong? I have an existing routine service appointment tomorrow at my dealer, so I can tell the SA. Any insight you might offer is appreciated. Thank you!

I found this posted in the G05 fourm that seems similar.

This is a known issue, I’ve had my steering column replaced under warranty in the first X7 (2020 M50i) with under 20k miles. There’s a TSB somewhere and according to dealer it’s a common issue with X5s/X7s.

On our second M50i now and with 42k miles on it, no issues so far.

I have this issue as well. My dealer has lubricated the steering column twice already, so the grinding noise is much less noticeable but hasn't completely gone. Should I push the dealer for the steering column replacement under warranty? What would be the best plan of action to get it done? Thanks!

I got distracted when dropping off my X7 for routine maintenance last week, and forgot to mentioned the steering wheel noise issue to my SA. Rats. It's not horrible, so I'll probably just live with it until my next tire rotation in 5,000 miles.
