Lamborghini Sián

What does everyone think of the new Lamborghini Sián supercapacitor hybrid?

Still has a V12 so still has a great exhaust.

Nice.

The car is sinister looking (a good thing), but I'm not a fan of the tail lights. Just my two cents though.

Looks pretty sweet to me. I dig the head lights and tail lights. I like that is looks more futuristic and not just like a stealth fighter.

That's the Aventador replacement concept I think you'll find - without it actually being called that!

As they reportedly pushed back the Aventador replacement until 2024, it'll be interesting to see how much of this design carries over. I have a feeling some of the design elements might make the transition, but most of it won't.

Funny - Apparently I'm the outlier. I don't really like it - but I haven't really liked most Lambo's over the last 2 decades, because:

1) They all look like angled spaceships.
2) They all look exactly alike.

I'm just more of a curves versus hard angles kind of guy when it comes to cars, and I feel that Ferrari really has a much more seductive line about most of their vehicles.

When I say curves, think the following:

Ferrari 488 GTB
Early 2000's NB Miata
BMW Z8
Aston Martin Vantage
Mid 90's FD Mazda RX7
1970's Alfa Romeo Spider

So - it's obviously just a matter of opinion, but these hard lines that are common among current era Lambo's just don't get me excited. Interior is the same - looks like something straight out of Buck Rogers. Cool, I guess, but not for me.

I don't disagree that they look like angled spaceships, but that is what Lamborghini has been known for since the Countach. But to say they all look exactly alike? That's quite a bit of a stretch.

Say what you want, but while I can see differences between the current lineup below, I don't think I'm far off the mark to say that they all look very similar.

Similar and exactly the same are very different. Every Ferrari for the last 20 years has been similar, that's what branding is, not changing the look to a completely different look every year.

That's what high end cars do. They dont mass produce to cater all types of customers, they just sharpen the same knives for the same purpose and that is why those cars become iconic.

Not the best looking limited run car they've made in my opinion. I'm more bothered by the hybrid tech.

Reading from the R&T article on the car, the supercapacitor is used for low speed parking and assists up to 80 mph, at which point it disconnects. So the car has 819 HP up to 80 mph and "only" 785 after that. In a car like this, does 0-80 mph really matter other than to bench racers? In a corner, you're never going full throttle, and it's still naturally aspirated, so I doubt the 35hp supercapacitor assists with power delivery on corner exit THAT much more than the engine could do on its own. I'm failing to see what Lamborghini accomplished with all the added complexity of this hybrid-lite system other than checking a box.

I realize I'm coming off as a little cynical, but I'm open to being enlightened. But for comparison, Acura of all companies has already brought 918-like technology to a somewhat attainable price point. What does this car do that's the same or better and that we can look forward to in future models? I fail to see it at the moment.

Capacitor powered electric motor is there for an added torque not high speed HP gain. It is a lot easier to manipulate electric motors to deliver exact amount of torque when you need it. It also says electric motor kicks in between gear shifts, probably to fill in for combustion engine in between gears or something.

But I am with you on the appearance; looks like they tried too hard.
