Also the side-exhaust while exceptionally 'cool' looking, also make getting in and out of the Viper a bit scary. I remember when I drove the old SRT-10 how hellaciously hot it would get right by the driver/passenger door well. Another point, the Z06 is going to draw all the attention.

Lastly, $15k discount on cars in this price range isn't unheard of. Plenty of folks get $15k discounts on M5/M6s/Maseratis etc. The $15k discount was probably already happening so this is just a marketing ploy really.

Other than that, the Viper is an insanely good car.
You can get a $15K discount on an M5?!?!?! Where!?? I'm in no way doubting, I'm just excited/curious about what you said.

The same TA, on a similar tire the Z/28 runs, was 2.8 seconds faster than the production car record time it just set at Laguna Seca, so no comparison to a Z/28 at all. Without those tires, the Z/28's times wouldn't even be talked about. Also, the post-production base Viper is only .8 seconds slower than the T/A on the SRT test track on the same street tires. Vipers are simply faster around a track than Corvettes are, even with inferior tires and brakes. I also own a C7 Z/51 Stingray and have no problem admitting that fact.

The new Z06 only makes 10 more HP the the ZR1 did, yet weighs almost 200 lbs more. The only Z06 that will have a chance beating the Viper will be the Z06 with Z07 package (cup tires, carbon brakes and a lot of aero), but even then, the new TA 2.0 is already available to order with much better aero, and if they decide to slap a set of the same cup tires that the Z06 runs on the TA, it's game over for the Corvette.

Can't wait!
All true, but the most important reason the Viper is the best has nothing to do with the times. It has to do with the fact that "it's alive". Almost every other car now isn't. They are all OVER refined, dull, and have electric assisted steering (including BMW, Lamborghini, Audi, etc).

FWIW, it is known that Randy is not be a big fan of the Viper.

He said and I quote after the first GTS test " I'm not a fan of any car that doesn't handle well " in response to SRT saying that to him lol . To Dodges credit the TA version did fix all of his gripes about the car and he liked it . I just can't believe they would give a car not ready for prime time to a major magazine for a comparo . Between that test and the test one showed up with worn out tires body panel issues etc . It hurt public perception a ton . the viper is a very unique car, old school , and I considered it , but not for what was originally asked . I'm glad you are enjoying it and in the end that's all that matters .

Right. And my saying he's a fan now is due to the things he said in the video when he tested the TA and also in the video of the round-table discussion with Motor Trend's senior editorial staff and Ralph Gilles, head of SRT (I've posted both videos in this thread already). So yes, he is very much a fan of the Viper now. He raved about it, actually

Ralh Gilles explains (in the round-table video I posted), that he absolutely wishes they would have had the car ready prior to the first test, but they were late, and it was either give MT what you have and hope it works out, or not give them a car at all. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Thanks.

Did they just fix everything in the ta and not change anything in the base car?

None were broken. The only car that needed to be "fixed" was the pre-production GTS they used for the first test. All kinks/issues were worked out by the time all of the available models (SRT, GTS, and TA) were released for sale. The only car with issues was that one pre-production car. It should have never been tested. Dodge f'ed up, but they were late with the Viper production and didn't have a 100% complete car to give to MT for testing by the due date, so they gave them the unfinished GTS and crossed their fingers. Big mistake.

In the round table video I posted, the MT staff states they've tested other Vipers (GTS and base SRT not just the TA) after the pre-production car, and that they were all great. The base SRT is only supposed to be .8 seconds slower than the TA, and the GTS, because it's heavier (full leather, 5 suspension mode settings), might be a tick slower than that.

One car, a pre-production car that hadn't had all of the kinks worked out yet, the one Dodge was stupid enough to turn over to Motor Trend for its first test, was the only car that had issues.

Mine is running Belanger headers, high flow cats, cat-back and tune. I picked up 60rwhp and 65rwtq on 91. 610 rwhp on Dynojet.

That is a nice gain for an N/A car and still has cats on it with 91 oct. Gonna be hard not to do the same but maybe no cats and I have 93.

BTW, did you send it to Woodhouse to get done?

I have 93 as well. I'll run it for more safety in high temps, but the car won't make more power with it since no timing is being pulled on 91. Stock fuel system is maxed out at my level. Yes, Woodhouse.

What color and serial number is your T/A? Mine is #8 of the 33 in White.

Probably around 710 hp / 670 torque or so. Stock is 640/600. My car weighs 3390 lbs.

Mine is #11/33 T/A in white. When I bought my T/A about month ago Woodhouse still had #5, #8 and #11. It wasn't easy deciding what # to get

When the Vipers drop into the sub 50's I see plenty of people want to try the car (me included)....

Cars are meant to install emotions once you get past the transportation purpose. I always loved how raw and fast they look. This is one car I would probably have a lot of fun with and get a speeding ticket doing it

Looks like the new Viper ACR got the go-ahead and will be officially revealed at SEMA. Here's a leaked pic. Poor Z06. It won't have a chance, lol.

Carbon brakes, massive weight savings, focused aero, probably more power (although still waiting for verify). It's over for everyone else.

I wonder how much the new one will cost! If they used a dct it would probably beat the hypercars in the Ring

You've gotta love a Viper!
