Ford stuck this way up BMW's butt and twisted it....the last car the car M division built e92 GTS and of course the e46 CSL were still not even close to the effort Ford accomplished with this exercise.

Ford dealers must be creaming in their BLUE jeans!

I NEVER thought a Ford would touch my garage floor..not so sure now!

GOOD JOB FORD!

I would definitely add the AC back. 100F outdoors at the track is no fun without AC

i'll be interested to see where the price on these lands. the estimates of $55base-70loaded seem about right to me. the performance achieved by the mustangs and camaros have been pretty good performance bargains but seem to be creeping up since they are getting so much praise. i love the all-roundedness of my f80 and that's the biggest reason i bought it. had a 2 door been sufficient i would've had a little harder time amongst other sporty/sports cars.

i don't think the mustang is a DIRECT comparison to the m4/m3 but they still may be cross-shopped by someone looking to find a new/fun/fast/cool car. when i was shopping for my m3 i also considered a stingray … different cars for sure, but both in the range i was willing to spend and cars i would really enjoy.. not directly comparable but there are a number of guys who are single or already have a "family" car and have the flexibility between sports cars and sports sedans. just wish i could have 'em all!!

Msrp was already leaked for gt350. $529xx base. You can only choose either track pk or tech pk and not both. So loaded gt350 should come in under 60k w either option. Now gt350r w ccb n carbon wheels.. Id expect it to start $68k

True the GT350R will not be a direct competitor of the M4, it should be in fact a direct competitor of the M4 GTS, a car that may cost twice its price judging by the previous M3 GTS, can't wait to see a comparo of these two!!

At 53k base, I really like the potential of the gt350 (not r)

Anxious to see official prices and specs, including weight.

At this point, I'm not sure I would want a car that is physically similar in size and even heavier than my m3 as a second car / weekend car. But, I'm certainly open to the possibility.

With this, the z06 and the viper lots of good American choices for a second car in the next 3-4 years

Kudos to Ford. Used to own Focus RS back in 2002 when in Europe and it was a blast. I can't handle the Mustang styling but I'd love to take one around a track and see what they've done with it.

The snobbery against American cars is kind of funny. Sure, Vettes and 'Stangs aren't for me but since moving to the states I've always had an American made (well, half Mexican) pickup, and my current 2015 Ram 3500 is a well made bit of kit and you can't argue with 865 lb/ft bone stock

I saw both the GT350 and the GT350R and they look like two different cars. The GT350 looks like someone order a hood, grill and some other accessories from a JC Whitney catalog while the GT350R looked like an M4 alternative. I was blown away at how great it looked. When I first saw pics of the GT350 a few weeks ago I was in love, then I saw how cheesy it was in-person.

Looks like worldcarfans.com is stating that the GT350R is getting 7:32.19 on the Nurburgring. That's pretty fast. Thoughts from everyone.

If true, that would be slower than I would have guessed. Absolutely impressive but I was expecting it to be a bit quicker given reported weight reduction and how dedicated a track car it is.

The Z28 is a 7:37 and the LAST generation Z06 was a 7:22. I bet a C7 Z51 is running not way far off of that time (although GM has never confirmed). Maybe I was being too hopeful with the GT350R but for some reason I thought it might be faster.

Thanks for your input. I enjoy your contributions on the forum very much and it is clear that you are very knowledgeable on these issues. I didn't realize how much of a beast the previous Z06 was. 7:22 is quite a bit faster than the GT350R's speculated time.

Don't get me wrong... 7:32 is a FAST lap and impressive I just built up my expectation of the new GT350R in my mind as being a very dedicated track car that would be in the high 7:20 range. Regardless, that time is still 20 seconds faster than the F82 and faster by 5 seconds than the impressive Z28. Still a BIG win for Ford IMO

Another IF

IF the source of the 7:32 time is credible, then the "easily repeatable" comment about the 7:32 might lead some to infer that something was left on the table. Was there? I don't know.

There are only two questions I'd like answered:
1. In regards to what kind of driver is the "easily repeatable" applicable?
2. What time is the limit for the car?
I suppose we'll have to await AutoSport's Supertest for the answer to the second question and may never get an answer the former question.

Well, the 7:22 was the Z06 with the Z07 package wasn't it? That is arguably more of a racecar than the 350R. Much lighter, same power.

The 7:32 time is impressive nonetheless. The GT3 which has the same focus and costs 2x as much does 7:24

Between this, the Z28 and the Viper they are making the next track car a more interesting question!

I don't know... the GT350R is pretty much a race car too It's a similar concept IMO to the Z28 and both are pretty bare bones. The C6 Z06 with the Z07 package is just a faster, more capable car. The C7 Z06 will be that much better again. I suppose Ford isn't really building the GT350R to compete with the Z06 and is really shooting for the Z28... and seems to have hit the target nicely.

True I don't think it was gunning anything other than the 911 and Z28 performance, which if true, they delivered.

C6 Z06 was just nuts

I'm not so sure about the C7 Z06. I wanted to like it but the overheating issues are a massive turn off. Track cars cannot -or should not- overheat after a few laps!
