What a total coincidence, i was about to open a new thread about this yesterday but then i decided to save it for later.
Apparently it's not a thing anymore to have both mirror able to dim, in some regions. I was an idiot in front of my dealer when i tried to RMA my right wing mirror for not working dimming (was dumb enough to not check whether there is even the "dimming line"). To make sure, i checked CAFDs and noticed there indeed is code for "one side" or "both sides", so i plan to retrofit this if it's only matter of swapping the glass mirror (not sure) and some "coding". For me, it's still quite annoying to get headlights into my eyes from one side. |

Wow I thought it was auto dimming on both sides. Yeah it is a big deal for me. When I checked out multiple cars before making the purchase I did specifically ask if all mirrors were auto dimming and every single salesperson said they were both auto dimming in all the cars I saw

It's still available in some other countries. So you may be able to purchase a passenger side mirror from one of those countries and retrofit it. |

Yup, removing the cornering lights is another cost cutting move.
MB is even worse. The GLS cost more than X7 yet has cheaper materials/build quality. Look at the lower door trim on the GLS, all hard plastic like you would find in a $20k chevy. At least BMW still uses soft touch materials on the bottom half of the doors. |

I looked into this when I realized the passenger side did not auto-dim. I wanted to go one step further and get the Euro version of the mirrors which have a better design to help eliminate your blind spots while driving. I found the parts as the auto-dim feature is available on RHD cars so the retro-fit part is a no-brainer. However, I stopped when I saw the price of just the mirror - $500+ (even more for the ones with the better blind spot reduction )
So is this an easy retrofit with easy parts availability? Yes. But you will have to pay for this one and my sticker shock for the cost of the parts would not let me do this retro-fit based on principle . If I happen to find a deal on a junkyard mirror I may look into this again though....

jmciver $500+ would be no-no for me as well
Fortunately i'll probably be able to get fully equipped (just) mirror for 80$ so will definitely give it a try. |

Rear fog is a reflector/fog unit and depending on market - rear fog is 1 unit on the left or right side. For USA, there is a harness opening but no harness.

My solution was just to bought an 2014 mirror, since i3 had it from the beginning. It was plug and play, even for the auto dim mirror. For cars without (like X7), you can buy RHD mirror og RHD mirror glass and make an external wiring/harness to connect on the LIN-bus in your existing mirror house. It looks weird without auto dim mirror on the passenger side.
