E90 Cuise control retrofit DSC module upgrade

Hi,

I'm trying to retrofit Cruise Control in my 2005 325i which didn't come with one.
This year model isn't just plug and play like the 4 cilinder models or 2007+ models are. One of the options is retrofitting an LDM, but after searching the internet for this retrofit, it seems also possible to build in a 2006/09 DSC module to get the Cruise Control to work, since the Cruise Control after the 2006/09 models works off the DSC instead of an LDM module.
I tried to update my current DSC module trough WinKFP, but no luck.
Can someone confirm that the post 2006/09 DSC modules have a different mechanism than the pre 2006/09 DSC modules?

All I can suggest is checking part numbers on realoem for the build dates in question.

I retrofitted cruise to a 2009 118d, and it was just a case of fitting the stalk and steering column cowl, then alter the VO and default code the DSC.

Thanks. I read that these post 2006 DSC's have an LDM ''build in'' trough a software change. Do you think it will be possible to program a 2005 DSC to have the same function as a 06/07 DSC or does it require a 2006/7 DSC?

Are you hoping to get VO 540 or 544?
Typically a six cylinder has 544 ie. Cruise control with braking function, but you might be able to achieve 540 - set speed maintained by engine - with the existing set up.

If aiming for 544, you have it correct so far LDM install or DSC swap. As to whether flashing the DSC would work, I don't know, BMW's literature just states a 'software change' allowed for the removal of LDM, as you state.

However, you might get success with the flash, but you might also have to change the build date of the car or other modules ie. Kombi, will expect an LDM.

If it is possible i would like to keep the current DSC and just upgrade it to get 540 as i dont care about the 544 brake function. But everywhere i read they say that the 6cil models only work with 544?
Any ideas on how the procedure would be to get this flash done?
I don't neccesary want to have a cruise control symbol on the kombi as long as it works.

Hi, I just check the ISTA documentation regarding to that and the following is listed there:

The LDM control unit is installed in the vehicle interior on the left below the dashboard. (LDM stands for "longitudinal dynamics management"). The LDM control unit is the interface to the motor and the brake. In the LDM control unit, the driver's inputs related to the cruise control are recorded and evaluated. The SA " Cruise control with brake function" is integrated in the LDM control unit.

Adjusted interface for the SA 544 "Cruise control with braking function":
E92 from 06/2006 and
E90, E91 from 09/2006 (until 09/2006: "Cruise control with braking function" always with LDM) and
E93 from 12/2006

On vehicles with the SA 544 "Cruise control with brake function" the LDM control unit is not required (see dates above). Due to a change in the software of the DSC control unit (DSC MK60E5) the DSC control unit takes over the functionality of the LDM control unit.

As you are running a 6 cylinder you will need the SA544 in your vehicle order and you need the correct steering column. The cruise control has 4 positions there instead of only 2 (4 cylinder). So in my opinion you have to retrofit the LDM module as you are on a 2005 E90 or upgrade your DSC to a newer version.

Hi,

I am trying the same thing on a pre 09/2006 e325i manual. I installed the cruise control stoke and when I tried to code either $540 or $544 VO i did not succed.

The ECU list that I find with NcsExpert is the following:

Name: ncs_expertECUlist.png
Views: 420
Size: 20.0 KB

I am able to code CAS, KOMBI, DSC and FRM, but when I try coding the LDM it fails.

The final result is that after I calibrated the stering angle of the SZL and cleared all errors on INPA, I could drive the car around and as soon as I tried to set the speed the Cruise Control error would appear on the screen no matter what VO code I am using.

Anyone has an idea on how to proceed ? Could it be that the stoke that I bought was not fit for my car ?

Hi SDN

Were you able to retrofit cruise control on your e90?

If so what did you do?
Did you just flash your DSC and change kombi high
Did you use LDM and wired it to your car
Or you took different route kindly share.
