But Audi is a close second. Bmw is third, but it's technology makes it #1 to me. You can adjust and set everything and everything works well and fast. |

Couldn’t have said it better myself. While my wife drives it primarily, I have found myself looking at prior gen x5ms to replace my cayenne turbo s due to the driving dynamics. The transmission and engine are spectacular. I love it and no issues to speak of.

Well, I'd have to disagree (their interiors make my stomach turn )- of course we are miles off topic, and this is personal taste, but here are pictures for everyone.

Fitment, alignment and smaller gaps between panels. Felt tape installed on any panels that may rub together. Quality of certain materials.
When? For over a decade they had the most archaic tech, cheap plastics, rattles and water leaks. Only as of late have they turned a corner and are producing a product with current tech and better materials but in some of their new vehicles there is a sea of cheap plastic and fake leather. You have to be over $92k+ or in some cases over $100k+ to get real leather or leather covering cheap plastics and hard panels.

Sure if comparing basic X7 40i then interiors are comparable to Audi Q7 prestige line, however when you take the high end trim finishes of X7 then there is quite a difference in plus for BMW. |

Correct; but panel fitment and gaps remain the same across all variants of the X7. I was also speaking broadly and generally about Audi interiors not specifically about any particular model. One thing that annoyed the hell out of me about the 4M Q7 is the lack of leather dashboard until the 2018 or 2019 model. Ridiculous that a $96k Audi did not have a leather dashboard option unless you did the Exclusive program which added $12k to the sticker. In the end there is always preference as the deciding factor. People have different tastes and value different things. Your car, your cash, your call.

I recently had a 2019 GLE loaner and was beyond disappointed, the interior door handles were already creaking and squeaking. Completely cheap plastics and they don't even attempt to hide it. The X7 carried life back to the 3rd row and makes you feel as if you are still in a luxury auto. The GLS 3rd row makes you feel as if you are sitting in any ordinary vehicle until you look at the huge driver screens up front. |

Mercedes interior materials and general quality isn't quite up to par with BMW (except for the S-Class), and I say this as a current Merc owner, but honestly they're all still very nice cars. My G30 5er had better interior materials and quality, yet I still prefer the more interesting and modern design of my CLS (but in the end looks are subjective), and the inferior materials/quality didn't sway my decision in going with the Mercedes over the BMW at all as I greatly enjoy other aspects of the Merc more.
I do agree that they messed up on the GLE/GLS interior though. There's a lot more hard plastics in the GLE that a similar spec'd E-class doesn't have (For example, GLE gets hard plastic lower door pockets but E get soft touch even in base form ) despite the GLE being labeled by Mercedes as "The E-Class of SUV's." I honestly think BMW just hit a home run with the current X5/6/7 interiors. They took the great quality and materials from the 5er and 7er, but fixed the boring design they both have and modernized it.

In my experience, pre-97 Mercedes had great interior quality and material. Anything made after 1997 from Mercedes is just garbage. Having said that, Mercedes are easier and better to work on from a technician perspective. BMW cut corners here and there when it comes to serviceability.
Audi interior have improved tremendously over the years and in terms of fit and finish, has surpassed both BMW and Mercedes, only behind Porsche. But Audi electronics are still crappy, just like BMW's. Mercedes software interface is better than BMW. Porsche is very reliable when it comes to software, but it is also years behind in terms of technology and functionality. Porsche is always the last one to have anything, but they are usually the best (eg. PDK transmission).
