I would get the full leather and not look back. I have kids as well and one plays high school lacrosse. They put all the gear in the back and not a single scratch on any of the leather because I don’t allow my kids or their friends to trash my cars. They know to respect our home and vehicles with care. If your kids treat your wife’s car like a school locker, set them straight or buy a minivan and let them trash that. 😜

2023 X40i Black Extended Merino Leather Availability

Ha! Yes, we expect the exact same from our son. No garbage, no dirt, no sticky drinks allowed. Clean up after yourself. Take care of and respect the things you/we have. That's part of the problem. My wife is so OCD with that that she's scared if she does find a blemish she is going to lose her mind.

But I am 100% in agreement with you. I want the full leather. For a car this nice I don't think we should settle for anything less.

Lol! Have you considered ceramic coating all the leather? It’s a great option to protect the leather.

Funny side story- I had bought a brand new 330ci back in 2006 and my 3yr.old threw up all over herself, backseats, rear console vents and back of front seats. The poor kid had it all over herself. Unfortunately for her and the car, we jumped on the 520 bridge that floats between Seattle to Bellevue in freaking traffic. The good news was we were headed to the mall and just threw out her clothes and bought new ones. I tipped the auto detail guy well

I am very familiar with the 520 bridge. I live about 30 miles SE of Seattle. If you thought traffic was bad on the 520, I-405, I-90 in 2006, you should see it today. Not to mention it's a toll bridge now.

I'm working on my wife for the full leather. My best selling point is that she's going to have to wait even longer for the car if she is set on the Extended. That's the best angle at making her cave.

I have some friends that live in Kirkland and pretty much never drive to Seattle because of the traffic now. I lived in Greenlake back the early 2000’s and loved it. I haven’t been back in years and from what I’ve been told, it isn’t the same. Traffic then wasn’t great but not nearly what it is today apparently. I didn’t know they put a toll on that bridge. I remember a few times being on that bridge and waves splashing me, you could feel the bridge sway slightly and once they closed it right as I exited it. It was pretty dang scary. We almost moved to New Castle before deciding to make Colorado our home. How I would love to go back to Seattle in its early days.

It's definitely not the Seattle you remember. You wouldn't recognize it. Half of downtown businesses are shuttered due to rioting and crime, people shoot heroin and smoke fentanyl openly on nearly every corner, several shootings every day, the homeless population has taken over the streets like LA Skid Row, and they are doing their absolute best to keep people from driving by turning all the streets in downtown into bike lanes, "parkettes", and shutting down roads half of the year for "improvements". Go to YouTube and watch "Seattle Is Dying" and "Seattle Is Dead". That will answer all your questions. Stay in Colorado.

i am not sure if the "extended" merino has changed from '22 to '23, but we have extended ivory merino and it has the leather dash and leather door uppers.

so even if the dealer was able to get you "extended" merino, your wife still may end up OCD with that option

i believe the "full" merino just added the lower dash area and maybe the panels that flank the center console area? not entirely sure.

i'm a mom and dog mom as well and can understand her OCD about the leather. i will say that the dash leather is gorgeous and is mostly out of harm's way due to the way it's sloped away from the passenger seat. however the door uppers caused me a little anxiety with our small but mighty french bulldog. he likes to look out the window but unfortunately he kung fu grips the upper door leather to keep his balance. sometimes i see light scratches there but leather sort of self-heals and is fine again. but i do get nervous about it and we don't take him in the X7 much anymore

I’ll look it up. But that’s freaking horrible! We as a family loved going to Pike market to get our veggies, fresh fish and of course flowers. We literally would walk all over and never felt unsafe, even when the wife and I would go to El gaucho, etc., at night. Same with Lake Union and Queen Anne. We actually moved from Colorado to Tennessee in the last couple years. It’s getting really bad there now. My office was in downtown Denver near 16th st mall and it’s turned into a serious drug and crime area after they passed legalization. It almost seemed overnight. We had have security escort are female and some of our male staff to their vehicles after 6pm. Living in Knoxville now and zero issues. Love it here!

Thanks for the information. That's good to know that your dog wasn't able to completely destroy it. That will probably make my wife feel better.

You are dead on! I've been living in Skagit County for 28 years and my daughter has been living in Seattle for the last 8 years or so. We have to drive down there often and I freaking HATE IT! I won't even drive my X7 to their house anymore because of all the crime. They live right on Martin Luther King Junior Way in a million dollar home that's over a 100 years old. Their neighborhood sucks and there's a homeless camp just a block and half from their house. My son-in-law is an emergency medicine doctor in Tacoma. Believe me when I say the Seattle/Tacoma area is in the sewer.

90% of his patients are homeless drug addicts looking for free drugs. He tells them to take a hike and they don't give him shit because he's a big guy at 6'6" tall with not an ounce of fat on him. All muscle.

I just wish I could get them to move away from there. I don't believe the Seattle environment is a good environment to raise a 15 month old child.

On top of all that I have to drive down to BMW Northwest to service my X7. At least they give me a loaner but I never feel safe driving anywhere near Seattle/Tacoma.

Extended leather only has a true leather dash if you pay extra for it, which is an option. Full leather gives you the dash, lower dash (glove box area), door tops (where windows are), and the pockets on the back of the front seats.

Ugh! Just watched it and now I’m depressed. It never looked like that back when we lived there. So sad

Yes, and those shows are old. Add another almost two years of filth, lack of crime enforcement, handouts, and drug influx and that's what we have now. I think the Seattle PD is operating at about 60% of what it should be because the politicians and general public have chased the commissioned officers out of town. Now two years later they are starting to figure out that maybe defunding and chasing out the police wasn't such a good idea, and are trying all the ways to bring them back. Nope. Not many are coming back.

At least we were able to get Russell Wilson out of here.

Ok, I guess I have an allocation but no production number yet. I'm guess DHP is going away on my build…we'll see. If so I think I'll just order a loaded GLS.

Update: Not happening on the GLS as the service reviews for MB in my area are abysmal.

I placed an order on Aug 4 and it is still not in production due to Coffee Extended Marino Leather.
CA doesn’t have any update and when asked to contact the BMW production team says they don’t have any way to contact them.
