previous owner tried to repair the curb rash on the rear 437m rim and whoever did it did a shit job and the outside of the rims is a lot lighter than it should be.
Pic will be below. I've seen a couple threads on here where people tried repairing these same rims and they had similar issues with matching the outer clear coat on these 437M black rims. Has anyone found a solution, and does anyone know a shop in the tri-state that has fixed these rims prior to make the rim match the rest? Don't want to spend 500+ on a new rim, I'd rather just get them all powdercoated satin black as I like the way that looks too. I saw varying info other threads. Plus, powdercoated rims can be repaired vs who knows who can repair these rims. I did get the car for a good deal, so a couple $$$ (hopefully 100-200) on fixing a rim wasn't a big concern of mine when I bought it as the rest of the car is mint. |

One of my rims was repaired by Rallye BMW. When you put the two of them next to each other you can see the difference, but when on the car its hardly noticeable. It's def not as pronounced as it is in your pic.

Are you sure it's too light? Maybe I'm misunderstanding but the front wheel looks like it needs to be lighter. The oem black wheels are pretty clear on the face with black on the inside. The rear one looks legit.

This happens all the time. The wheels are Powdercoated black and then machined. Then the clearcoat after. However most rim repair places don’t add black tint to the clearcoat. It’s a matter of adding a tinted clearcoat, essentially just a touch of black on the mix. The reason why most don’t do it is because you can oversaturate and make them all a bit different. So it’s best to redo them all at the same time or have another original wheel at the rim shop so they can “match” the tint. black 437M and 666M wheels both have a tinted clearcoat that makes the machined area darker. The silver 437M and 666M wheels use just regular transparent clearcoat. If you have both a black and a silver wheel beside each other the machined exposed metal areas are a different finish.

I would recommend getting all 4 done so that the repair shop can match each other. I was in a similar situation. The first time round it turned out like yours. I went back and left a wheel with them to match. They got it pretty close. Sometimes it likes fine and sometimes you can tell the difference. I have gotten over it now so it does not bother me as much.
I may in the future consider getting all 4 done so it perfectly matches, and maintain the same style finish. I say that because i am not keen on the all black satin finish. Hope this helps.

Getting all 4 done would probably cost as much more than buying a used 437m wheel i've seen a ton for like 400ish |

True - you could consider buying a set. Match the wheel and then sell extra 4 wheels. You could even come out breaking even or pay less than the cost to refinish.

The original BMW clear coat has dark tint on the rims, once curb rash’ed it’s hard to match.
When a shop does a good job you don’t notice so much but’s it’s visible!
