Software version 07/2021
New production models have been out with this version for many months now. BMW news says they've released this update for millions of cars. Hasn't shown up OTA for me yet. Anyone else?
Just had my X7 at the dealer to swap out my winter wheels. Asked them to update the software, as dealers definitely have it now. They were a bit confused, whether I was asking to update to the newest iDrive version. Then they said they checked and "were seeing a software version update available", but then couldn't get one for my car. Not sure what all happened there. They said nobody should update unless they're having a problem with their current software. Which I get, but that actually contradicts BMW's statement that everyone should install the update when available. And the MyBMW app won't let that notification be cleared until you do complete the update. A big reason for me, is that I lost many coded features in the last 03/2021 update. I've been lazy and waiting for the next update before having r33_RGSport recode them again.

I didn't get this update on my X7 yet. But two weeks back got the notification on my M350i and update it to 07/2021 … I'm hoping at some point it will get posted to our X7

The OTA updates are typically one cycle/quarter behind the updates from the dealer. The dealers will always have the latest software update if/when customer cars need a software update to address a potential issue (this is how I recently got the 7/2021.xx update last month and not via OTA).
So what that means is when the 11/2021 update hits the dealers (which it should have already as it is now November), the 7/2021 update should become available via OTA for vehicles in phases over the next few months. On a related note, with OTA updates the way of the future now, even if delayed sometimes, investing in a tool like BimmerCode makes it easy (and more economical) to re-code your stuff after an OTA (or dealer) update. In my case, it takes me ~20 min or so to restore all of my coding using BimmerCode after a software update. With a few exceptions, BimmerCode can code all of the most common options people like (and then some if you want to use the advance coding options in BimmerCode).

In my case, I had my X7 in for the “lost bass” issue, which was very intermittent for me. They updated my software as result. I have done the same thing previously on my M3 as well to get the software updated….

I don't want to hijack the thread but I'm curious if the software update solved your Bass issue.

Difficult to say as I only experienced it 3 times, randomly, in my 1.5 yr ownership - and I could not re-create it. There was a bulletin on the issue, which the dealer performed (how I got the software update) and the issue has not happened since (knock on wood….).

Is there an issue with this software version upgrade in X7 40i keeping the side mirror setting stored properly between two different drivers?
it appears between my wife and I once we set up the side mirror settings for one of us it will not reset it to the settings for next driver as it does the driver seats and steering wheel. |

Got the notification today as well. It's downloaded on my phone but haven't installed it yet.

I was notified yesterday of the 07/2021 software upgrade. I downloaded (via my iPhone) and installed the upgrade.
Subsequent to the upgrade, I have not been able to start the X7 with the three taps of the BMW roundel on my key fob… I haven’t run into other quirks. |

Yeah, this is one of the frustrating things about a software update. In addition to wiping out coded features, this is a stock option that resets

Just downloaded myself. Took a lot of fiddling, deleting and re-adding my phone to get it to connect in a way that the BMW will pull out the update. All other connection features worked fine (Android Auto, bluetooth, even Wi-Fi). I finally got it to work by deleting and re-adding, and quickly hitting OK on the phone when it asked if I could connect to BMW,.
I am on Android, so if anyone else is having these issues and has Android, give it a shot and see if it works. |

My update came through. Cleared at least two coded features (auto start/stop and BW sound) as well as stock options toggled within iDrive.
Steering felt slightly stiffer, and exhaust sounded a bit quieter. But that may just be my brain playing tricks on me. Looks like Apple CarPlay has some changes that seem to make navigation without touchscreen easier. |

I have an appointment with r33_RGSport Ben tomorrow to re-code. And then from here on out, I'm going to re-code right away, after each OTA update. It's just not worth waiting and having the features revert, particularly anti-dazzle.
