Can't win with you guys. When BMW introduces a new model they're criticized for either being boring (new 5/7-series) or being too bold. These are the same haters that swore off BMW 16 years ago with the launch of the E65 7-series for being "too bold, ugly, etc" yet that was not translated into sales as it was the #1 selling 7-series of all time. Not to mention it was copied by every other Japanese car maker.

And BTW, this is a CONCEPT! It'll be slightly toned down for production but what you see is likely 80% true.

We know you're uncomfortable with change but the X7 is still familiar yet boldly refreshing. TRUE BMW enthusiasts who bleed blue have faith and trust in BMW that they know what they're doing.

Well the Z4 and 8-series concepts give me hope, as does that i Vision thing unveiled today.

BMW has a massive problem with integrating their design into large vehicles. Both the F01 and G11 look bulbous and boring. The G11's front looks truck lick with those massive square kidneys and square headlights.

At least they got the LCI E65 and ever 7er before that right. Wide and sleek are the way to go.

The X7 looked pretty good in the flesh today at the IAA. I can really see a Rolls version of this beast coming down the pike. The grills looked perfectly proportioned IRL.

I suspect they're over-sensitizing us to a larger grill. When we get the production X7, the grill will be smaller than this one -- but still outsized in proportion to the X3/5 -- and we'll collectively be happy.

The grills also look huge on the test vehicles and they are still partially covered up by camo. Lets face it, the grills are going to be huge on the production version as well. Honestly they need to hear the criticism from the public, so this trend doesn't continue in their design language.

Almost all folks always wish they always get concept designs to be close to production. Now, it's the opposite

I do agree - that thing isn't visually appealing.

I think when they tone it down and refine it, it will probably be decent.

That aluminum trim around the glass and beaver teeth really does not photograph well.

IMO, It looks worse from the side and the rear. The front though miles away from looking decent, is better than that side profile. From the side it looks like a Mitsu Outlander

Usually the concepts are better looking than the production models. That's the scary part here.

Dammit. Been waiting for the X7 for years.

This thing is absolutely hideous.

Looks like it will be another Mercedes GL for the wife in a year or two.

I wouldn't judge too quickly. I remember a similar reaction for the current X6M when it just came out. New designs have a tendency of growing on you after some time.

Yeah, E65 was indeed scary to look at. All of the balance and sleek elegance that the E23/32/38 capitalised on was immediately and totally vaporised in this clumsy design. The car was a very good ride, but Bangle tried to hide it behind a hideous facade.

Apparently you believe it helped the commercial success. I don't. Just imagine how much more it could have meant when it would have continued its legacy with grace and elegance.

I don't dig your blabla about resistance to change. The proto for the new i Vision is lauded, and it's certainly more disruptive than X7. I also believe we pay enough for our ride to make it a bit more appealing to the eye than this. When we'll see the final price of the X7, you can maybe agree on this?

I expect the Rolls Cullinan will be better looking. Get her that instead of the Merc.

Must have been different design teams between the z4 concept and this monstrosity. No way they share the same design DNA

Ok, the worst parts of this X7 is the grill, the hockey sticks on the side and mini hockey sticks on the back. Just imagine if the grill was taken down of few notches, smaller. Then all the hockey looking sticks were either removed or painted in black? Maybe carbon fiber. A low key color to take away from catching your eye in that area.

As it stands now the first person in line to buy this would be a guy named Griswold.

Very ugly with Asian eyes and massive nose! Btw, I'm Asian!
All they have to do is stretching X5 by 10 inches and call the date!
I'd rather get Mercedes GLS!

Looks like BMW have borrowed an Audi Q7 and a Volvo XC90 and merged them using photoshop. Very unimaginative.
