I Want To Gain Weight!!!

If only caps lock would stay on. lol

I'm having an issue with my weight. I've always been self conscious about my weight. I think its a skinny person thing, were the grass is always greener on the other side.

I'm about 5'10" and weight 140 pounds. My eating schedule is completely random. I don't work out, because I really don't have time.

Now I somewhat had a reality check of how skinny I am. I was at work today and I was compared to my 14 year old co-worker. This made me sad. I'm in my 20s

Now I'm planning on renewing my gym membership, and putting on some muscle. So what advice can you guys give me? How could I gain weight/ mass.

*Co-worker suggested I drink milk.

depending on your body type, metabolism, etc you may just not be able to put on more than a few pounds.

I'm 6'6" 180 lbs or so... for a year I was dedicated to the gym, protein shakes, eating a lot, etc etc.... at the end I was still only 190-195 lbs

protein shakes and eating more though will at least help a bit

OK, hate to further your comparison...

Your stats are close to my youngest son when he was 16, 6', 145.

He had some self confidence issues we recognized from some behavior problems and running with the wrong folks. We started him on a 12 week program with a good trainer, best money we ever spent. He is now 6'2" and 225 and lives to work out and be healthy.

All of that to say get with a trainer, it is a little expensive, but a good one is worth the $$'s.

I worked out a couple of years ago and I was somewhat happy with the result, but I never put on the weight. I had just toned my body.

Calories - lots of 'em. If you don't want to do things in phases (i.e. wreckless calorie binges for a few weeks followed by tighter "cutting"), focus a lot on protein. Never more than 2 hours between meals. Do the protein shake thing. If you have a Costco near you, buy the Premiere Nutrition shakes - 30gm protein each, taste great, and super convenient (much easier than mixing your own). Casein protein before bedtime - easiest way would be to down a big glass of milk.

As far as working out goes: the first week will suck (soreness, etc.), but once you get in the groove of things, aim for no more than reps of 8-10 with your weights (i.e. make it where it would be tough to do many more than that). Don't skimp on legs. Should get your started. I will also suggest creatine, but calories and protein will be plenty for a while to get you going.

I would highly suggest StrongLifts as a beginner. Working out 3 times a week combined with eating loads should help you gain weight.

Here is the link to the free ebook - http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5-ebook-download/

Also, I would highly suggest making your own protein shakes. Much cheaper, natural, and you control what goes in them.

You should pick up some whey and casein powders. I would look for Optimum Nutrition Whey and Optimum Nutrition Casein on Amazon.

Ask if you have any questions on anything.

let me put it to you this way...

in order to gain weight your input has to be higher than your output

this is about as simple of a statement as i can make gaining weight to be...

in other words, you have to eat more calories than you burn..

to further this... eat like your starvin' marvin' and hit the weights..

i'm 6'5'', i started working out back in gr 10 when i was 155lbs

this passed winter i hit 213lbs, but since then have cut down to 205 cuz who doesnt wanna have abs at the beach...

its gonna take a while if you plan on doing it right but its worth it, look at it as a lifestyle (eating high amounts of good foods (high protiens) and working out)

if you dont have the time for the gym then make yourself a routine at home that you know you can follow everyday

check out bodybuilding.com , lots of great info there and at the forums

A lot of pizza, fast food and beer.

But seriously, I agree on the whey protein and just increasing protein/calorie intake. There is also some weight gainer powders out there, don't know how well they work, I've never tried them.
But with all this you also actually have to do the strong lifts like the others said. Otherwise you'll just get the bad fat type of weight

It's going to be tough, and you'll need a ton of motivation.

To start, I would buy a mass gainer like True Mass from BSN. A tub of that should give you around 5-10 lbs of pretty lean mass. Obviously, increase caloric intake, and try to keep it healthy. Lots of chicken and lean red meat. ALWAYS, ALWAYS lift heavy in the gym. So heavy that you can do only 8 reps max.

Doing all this you should definitely see gains. In one year I gained over 20 lbs.

If you plan on going to the beach now is a bad time to bulk IMO. Say goodbye to any abs you have because bulking in this way is going to hide them. You can't bulk and have abs at the same time.

Grab a copy of the New Encyclopedia.... It covers exactly what you're looking to know, in great depth. Plus, its contents don't only apply to hardcore body builders.

Getting skinny is easy, getting fat is hard work.

#1 you have to eat more lean meats and veggies/fruits.
#2 work out

When I graduated from high school 10 years ago, I weighed 120lbs soaken wet, 5'10". Graduated college ~130lbs soaken wet.

Now, after 3 years of working out and eating right, I hover around 155, working towards 165. Just ran into a buddy from high school I haven't seen in 10 years at the gym 2 weeks ago. He was amazed at how much different I looked. And he's not the first. Makes you feel good when people almost don't recognize you (but in a good way).

i still think i hold the record for being really skinny....
6'1 125ish lbs when i was a freshmen in college....lol

Last summer i hit 200lbs (currently at 180 cause i stopped working out for almost a year) and the main thing I did was figure out my bodytype (ecto/meta/endo) and followed the routine on how to bulk with that.

My advice, eat every 2hrs. Lift heavy weights. Benchpress, Squats, Deadlifts, Backrow, should all be in your workout. What i find funny in the gym is some people dont train their legs as hard (or at all) as their chest and wonder why there gains are limited. Dont try to just gain weight, try to gain learn muscle (which in return your weight will go up)..

Eat as much as you can and lift heavy. Go to the gym every other day opposed to consecutive days to give your body time to rest and heal as well as build up those calories. Run 2x-3x for a max of 30 min. As far as supplements go, in my opinion Optimum products are the best. See what you can find there like the ProGainer.
