Offset
I know this is the wrong place for this thread and admin. is welcome to move but I'm hoping for a quick answer that I may not get from the wheel forum.
I have the 330 Sport that has +34 front and a +37 rear offset OEM. I am moving to 17 inch 225 45 for winter. What offset should the new wheels maintain in order to be within spec.? JV |

But what is the range that people can run s that they are not putting undo stress on wheel bearings or casuing camber issues etc. I want to know the acceptable range for 17" x 8 offset for E90.

Hey JVFan,
What snow tires are you going with and rims? I have a friend in Edmonton who deals with tires and will be ordering the Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 (winter runflats, 17s) for about $1000 incl GST. May be able to get cheaper if you want a set too. Are you picking up your rims at a dealer or aftermarket?

Funny thing is is that I got my package already but I only worried about the offset after the fact. I got Dunlops for 230 per tire as the guy at tiretrends.com quoted me the price on the non-runflat Winter M3. To go with them, I got the M3 replica wheel. After reading some postsd here, I called Tiretrends and told them that the brakes on the 330 Sport were bigger than the 325. They never realized this so they brought a car in to their shop and tried the M3....didn't fit. So they sold me the M5 replica wheel instead so I had to send the M3 back at their expense.
Now the M5 replica is 17x8 with a 38 offset. The OEM wheels are 18x8 34 offset and 18x8.5 37 offset. I'm sure they'll be a great fit but as my confidence was shaken, I want to make sure. My brother is getting his car with me in Vancouver next Saturday. He would be interested, I'm sure, in talking with you as he has yet to get his set up. |

Kes, I can call him next week and ask him if he would sell outside of the province.

JV, I used the calculator on the tires and wheels section and if its correct, your rims will be pushed into the vehicle by 4mm. Not noticeable by the eye......

I'm trying to land on a rim and tire combo for winter. I'm pretty sure I want M3's or the new Nokian runflat, alought I am not sure if the NOkian is coming to North America this winter.
As far as rims, I'm still interested in 161's, if I can find the right price. Probably bmwwheels.com has the best price on factory wheels, outside another E90 member. |
