Great video. First one I've seen discussing the 2nd row like that, how it can shift forward and back to put legroom into the 2nd or 3rd row seats.
Me, I'm interested in the X7 for 2 primary reasons that seem strange, but are important at this point in my life: (1) seating height, getting in and out of the vehicle. The adjustable suspension seems to make that even better. And (2) second row legroom for the family. The X5 just doesn't have enough for teenagers for long, comfortable drives. I don't need a 3rd row, so I hope those back seats are removable. Looks like BMW is still masking off at least the top of the grills to hide they're oversized alcoholic kidneys. I still fear the final production look, on the street. |

Not bad, even though I assume it'll look just like a larger version of the X3/X5. That being said, our X5 is barely large enough for my family of four. If we take a road trip, that thing is loaded to the max and forget about taking the dog with us. Once I'm done with my current X5, something that is along the size of an Escalade/GLS/Land Cruiser would without a doubt be my move.

Why? They are telling us subtly that even they didn't believe the 3rd row space in the previous X5 didn't qualify as a "seat".

@2:25 He said, "go to your BMW dealers ask and ask for a 12 cylinders, and eventually they will give you a 12 cylinder engine." why would dealerships have any decisions on engine options? Did he meant say maybe go to BMW AG? I didn't get that.

They need to put real rubber on this vehicle - no 20" bling rims with low profile sidewall tires that go flat after running over a few pebbles and a paper clip.

My guess: X7 40i will be ~$82k and X7 50i will be ~$98k.
X7 i6: $3k + 7 series means ~$85k GLS 450 starts at $70k. GLE starts at $52k where X5 starts at $57k, maybe this gap gets closed a little, low $80's. X7 V8: $3k + 7 series means ~$98k GLS 550 starts at $95 so this seems reasonable. X5 i6: $61 (~$3k over base 5 series) X5 V8: $76 (~$3k over base 5 series) And with the price of the 8 series, BMW doesn't seem to be shy going high. Edit: I was just trying to put in two suitcases, 1 hardside golf case, nope, doesn't fit without folding the 2nd row. I so want to buy an X7 but in reality the X5 is fine for 95% of all situations. And for $20k extra, I could order 125 Escalade limo's for days to fill in the gaps... Last edited by bjcarls; 07-10-2018 at 03:28 PM.. |

BMW AG's customers are its dealers and we are the dealers' customers. If people who want a V12 keep telling their dealers they want one and those dealers pass the info along to BMW that there is a demand, then it's more likely that BMW will build what it knows its dealers will buy.

I'd be ok with foldable, as long as they are low when folded. Foldable into the floor would be nice, but I don't see that happening with the quality level of the X7.

That video does seem to indicate that BMW has solved the shortcomings (ha!) that exist for families like ours and the X5. We love our X5, but need more vehicle.
Funny enough we just test drove the Subaru Ascent and even though obviously an entirely different class of vehicle (you could literally buy 2 Ascents for the price of one X7) it really wasn't bad. We enjoyed it much more than expected. Still rather have an X7! |
